I am thinking of getting Fallout New Vegas for my 360 yet I am hesitant after hearing about the glitches in the game, freezing the console. My former flatmates PS3 was rendered useless after crashing during the game. Was this only on the PS3 or was the 360 affected too. I don't want to waste my money and lose all data on my hard drive.

I'm assuming you don't have a PC capable of playing the game? It's one of many games that are far, far superior on PC, and can still be played with a gamepad or Xbox 360 controller if you want.
The game has had a number of stability patches since release and should run just fine. It will still freeze or crash once in a while (it's the nature of the awful engine it uses, Gamebryo) but generally should run fine. The PS3 glitch you're thinking of might be the one where the save file gets too big. Just make multiple save files if you think this will be a problem.

I never noticed many glitches on my play through. I love the fallout series but I wish they would give an option to bleep out the swearing. Since they don't I can only play win my kids are out of the house or asleep. So I don't really ever get to play it.

In my opinion, not at full price. Now that the game is older and cheaper yes, yes it is. I have the 360 version and it does have it's glitchy moments but overall it isn't a bad game, I just wish they could bring back the humor of the first 2 games. Also I agree that kids should not be around this game, but we could always have this alternative in our games.

I played FO:NV to death on the 360 and except for the very occasional crash or quest bug, i never came across anything game breaking, however few people ever get exactly the same bugs.

I borrowed the game from my friend and completed it without any major problems, except for a few occasional bugs but there are always some minor bugs and glitches in an open world game like that.
But like Brother SRM said most games are superior on PC so if your computer can run it, i suggest getting it on PC.
And also i dont think i have to mention the superiority Keyboard+Mouse over console controllers in almost any aspect.

The only reason to play games like Fallout 3, Skyrim, etc on PC over a console is because of the fact that the PC community does more to expand the game via mods, unofficial patches/tweaks, etc than Bethesda does.

The mods are really a huge part of these games, and do a lot to expand the game in cool and interesting ways. Hardcore mode, iron sights, and a number of other little things in New Vegas were added in because there were Fallout 3 mods that did the same that were really popular. PC is also my personal preference for shooters, and I like being able to turn the graphics up, quicksave, use console commands (which are frankly pretty important when you can get stuck on the environment or what have you, can respawn items that fall through the earth or characters who disappear, and do all sorts of other stuff to un-feth the game when it breaks) and so on. For big open world RPGs using such an unstable engine, PCs are pretty much necessary to really enjoy them for me.

Oh I wasn't disagreeing with you. I just find it ludicrous that one has to restrict themselves to a specific platform to access user-generated content which fixes the game better than the content from the company who developed the game does.
You'd think Bethesda would have their act together by now and work on a new engine, but nooooooooooooo....

That is a huge benefit to playing on the PC, but!
I always enjoyed these kinds of games on the PC because you are able to adjust things like AA and viewing distance etc. Not trying to start a fanboy war or anything ( I own 3 different platforms that I enjoy all of) but the capability of a high end PC to produce a much better picture is always a draw. I played Skyrim on my liquid cooled gaming machine and it was drop dead gorgeous, but I have also played it on my 360 and it was just as enjoyable. Same with Fallout 3, played it on both, owned it for console first, then picked up for PC to mess with the mods etc., and enjoyed the hell out of it on both.
Again not trying to start an argument or anything, but there is more than 1 reason to play across multiple platforms

You don't, because its not.
NV works fine on 360, at least in my experience. You will be missing out on mods though, although personally I haven't really seen much in them.

I'll take the precision of a mouse and keyboard over a controller any day of the week.
The mods for New Vegas are insane. Project Nevada does awesome things with the game, making it more realistic, adding items, giving extra features and making action points useful for more than just VATS. It's pretty slick:

There's also stuff like A World of Pain which adds quests, dungeons, monsters, and a huge underworld to explore. Yeah, there's also the gross anime porn ones if you want those but this is the Internet we're talking about here.

You won't get an argument about a mouse+kb being more 'precise' for an FPS out of me, it certainly is; that doesn't mean its 'superior in every aspect'. Of course, I find leaning back in my desk chair to be much more comfortable. Its also a... subpar control scheme for anything but FPS and RTS in my opinion, I'd never want to play a platformer, driving game, third person action game, brawler, fighting game, etc, etc with a mouse and keyboard. But FPS, sure, its more precise.
As for mods, some of them are great, I'm just lazy and have never really found anything that stellar from them. If someone wants to play mods, definitely get the game for PC.

I find the controller more fun to use than a regular mose and keyboard. Call me a scociopath if you will but I love the thrill of the controller vibrating in my hand when I shoot my pistol in game, and pulling a trigger is much more satisfying than clicking someone to death as for the OP's questions: even before the patches I didn't run into game breaking bugs all the time on my 360, but I did run into one bug for a main quest: NCR vs khans anyways I like the game on the 360, and I suggest getting the all DLC in edition as it adds so much more flavoring to the games.
