At this point there is no repairing it. To me it's simply a very heavy and large (48") paperweight. Everything works fine but the screen is cracked. To those unfamiliar with the situation, repair costs are worth more than a new tv usually.

With that said, what should I do with it?

Sell it for parts?
Attempt to salvage specific bits out of it?
Haul it to the dumpster?

I've got plenty of time to devote to making sure I make the most out of the death of my TV.

Precisely. I'm doing my duty as a merrican and going bigger. However, I've still got to deal with what I've got sitting around.

If you can find anywhere nearby that offers a trade-in discount, then that might be handy. They can usually salvage it for parts and use those for any repairs they make for customers, so it's a win-win situation if you can get a discount off a new TV whilst you're there.

EDIT: Or you could add a 12" length of something flat to one end and the end opposite and repurpose it as a gaming table.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I have a 32 inch televsion lying around that literally just stopped working one day. I was watching modern marvels, and it just went black. Apparently, our particular model has a problem with spontaneously short circuiting....

Which is a real bummer. I could use a 32 inch monitor for my computer!

How did you crack the screen of your large television?

Coffee Table?
Target Practice?
Recycling is good I suppose, especially if you can get some sort of trade value towards a new one.

You're not one of those people who spend 2,000 bucks on a TV but only 3 bucks on a wall bracket, and then the TV falls off the wall. Not a week goes by when the newspapers don't run that story!

It got cracked this year during it's transportation to Quakecon. I live like 15 minutes away from the event, and this year I wanted to bring a big screen so me and 3 of the fairly large crew I hang with could throw down on some 4 player MAME. Well, during the packing process of putting it in my car, a friend who was staying at my place during the even put a case of vitamin water on top of it, or it might have been something else. The screen was face up on it's back, and I guess the bumping and jarring of the trip was enough to put just enough weight on it to crack the inner liquid. I didn't blame him though, it was my idea to take it so I shouldered the blame. Honestly I wasn't even bothered that much by it. Gak happens, and I wasn't about to let a broken TV ruin my day.

I had a similier issue with my 19" lcd. The issue it had was this:
http://www.asti-usa.com/support/appnotes/65/2.jpg

those have ballooned so I took them out of my tv (with that thing they use for melting electronic things), went to to an electronics store, asked for replacements, just putted those in and voila working tv. Total cost was about 2 euros.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Oh, wow! Thanks, I'll have to look into that. That's a silly problem. You'd think the QC staff would make the best parts available... but that's never the case

If it ran forever you'd never buy another. Most things are designed to fail nowadays.
