Subject: Lincoln - The new Abraham Lincoln biopic from Spielberg
It's been a while since I've seen such a blatant attempt to win an oscar!!
Let's hope it's a return to form for SS, because his recent films have been a let down.
I'm surprised he chose 1865 for the film. 1862-63 was way more interesting for Lincoln.
Slightly OT, but when I was watching Gods and Generals, I nearly wept when Stonewall Jackson died. Was I the only one?

Not super impressed by the rest of it (rather generic-looking for a big historical drama), but D D-L is a gorram genius, and I'm really liking his Lincoln.

What is interesting is that, it seems, we (in general, not us here) have such built in expectations of what Lincoln should act like and be like that when something doesn't quite conform to established ideas people are put off, even if they have no reason to be. In specific what I refer to in this instance is the voice, as there have been several articles about people complaining that it isn't deep enough. We are used to hearing a Lincoln with a deeper voice, but historical accounts all say he had a high pitched voice. It is reality (or an attempt at it anyway) clashing with expectation. Of course is it any surprise that it is DDL that went the extra mile to engross himself in every document he could find on Lincoln's mannerisms and the way his voice sounded?
I do agree though that the trailer is muddled, though I imagine that it is because it is a long film with a lot of set pieces, mostly people in a room talking, and it was difficult to parse down. Of course it could also be indicative of the entire film as well. The only thing I have certainty of is DDL's performance. In short time we'll find out if this is another case of bad trailer; good movie or bad trailer; bad movie.

DDL'll do a fine job, and I'm normally a fan of historical talkies. I think it's partly a muddled trailer, but overall, it just has a "History Channel movie of the week" feel to it, to me.

After watching the trailer again, I've got this dread feeling it's going to be another saving private seabiscuit aka warhorse.
It'll probably be an average film with DDL going above and beyond to carry it. The whole thing seems desperate for an Oscar TM

I've already called that at the next Oscars the competition for best performance by an actor will be between DDL (Lincoln) and Joaquin Phoenix (The Master). I'm sure Lincoln will be nominated, but unless the movie is very surprising, I doubt it will be a serious contender.
