I wont bore everyone with my whole background but the short version is that I'm a 28yr old very recent returnee to the hobby after an absence dating back to mid 90's 2nd Ed.

When I was young, discovering GW for the first time and busily getting swept up in the big 2nd Edition release, I once happened across an old and broken rogue trader Land Raider. I thought that was cool. They kinda stopped making them, no photos appeared in my codex and White Dwarf totally forgot about them (even, if i remember correctly, inexplicably omitting them from the "Heretic" battle report). I actually built my own from a WW1 tank kit. Around a year before my time with 40k was coming to an end (it ended not long after both the release of 3rd Ed and my 15th birthday, I believe), there was a new edition of Epic released and with it some tiny, new shape Land Raiders. I very nearly bought a little blister of them just to paint and have sit on my shelf. "Someone wants to build these 40k scale, pronto" I remember saying at the time. Well, turns out they did just that..... some time ago, I understand. Actually, in the intervening years I have seen one or two through the window of my local store. But today, this afternoon, my very own Land Raider arrived in the post. I am giddy. Just delighted. I can't tell you how much. I love it. We never used to have things like this. Just wanted to share with you all.

All the best,

Alan

Yeah I know what you mean - I had the same feeling when i picked up my very first land raider years ago. It got broken over the years, but recently I repaired it, and over time I've added 3 more crusaders. My templars never leave home without them - they kick face.

In 5th they were the bane of alot of armies being next to indestructible, in 6th they are still pretty tough to kill and are an excellent way to deliver expensive assault units.

Yeh, hobo, when I bought it, I wasn't really thinking about the tactical possibilities to be honest. But, as I type, there's a small tub of yet-to-be-built assault terminators kinda nudging itself towards the land raider box.

I've built 3 marine armies at various points over my 40k career...
- Vanilla marines: have a land raider
- Space Wolves: have a land raider
- Chaos Marines: Have 2 land raiders

Needless to say, I second the motion!

Yes, it is a beautiful model, and thank you for sharing your joy with us. A lot of times people forget that that is what this hobby is all about - being 28, but still having that kid at Christmas feeling when getting our new toys.

You should check out some of the other stuff GW has made since you last played... really nice stuff.

Yeah, I think the current basic design LR model came out what, around ten years ago? They did some recut sprues a few years basic making the Redeemer and Crusader variants plastic; originally the Crusader bits were metal.

It is a sweet kit. I have one painted for my Chaos and two for my Blood Angels, and two or three more new in box waiting to be built.

LR's are a fantastic kit, I very much enjoy the sturdiness the model has.

Soo jealous manna. I'm currently saving up for another crusader kit so I can run dual raider TH/SS. Against my local meta that's switched almost entirely to plasma spam foot lists. It's gonna be hilarious to watch opponents flounder because no one think mech lists are good anymore haha.

I should bust them out again sometime soon. I played one game against Necrons and basically retired them after that.

Yah, necrons do that to any mech though haha. I only have 1 necron player around here. Most people around me play various marine flavors, orks, guard, eldar, and tyranids. The current list I've been getting crushed by is GK with space wolf allies. He only has 6 bs3 melta in the whole army though at 2k pts haha. So he isnt gonna like my dual raiders soon ;p. But it's cool cause were friends and have an agreement to tailor and try to break the others will haha;p

I also stopped this hobby around 2nd edition and came back recently. Land Raiders were one of the first new things I noticed. I always wanted to own a Landraider back in 2nd, now it's something I MUST do.

Another model that struck me as coming a long way is the Carnifex model. I used to love the old metal one, but the new plastic one is AMAZING in comparison. Miniatures have come a long way.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Land raiders are undoubtedly one of the coolest things about 40k, I agree. They're just so sleak and aerodynamic!

I have one Land Raider Crusader for my Deathwing. I wasn't planning to buy it, but I walked in to my flgs one day, saw it pre-built, and on sale for 40$. It wasn't just the price, I love that thing.

I've got a couple of extremely abused and banged up Land Raiders that a guy who was quitting gave to me. I don't own a marine army, and don't plan on getting into one at the moment, but loved the look of them.

So I'm going to turn them into the most awesome battlewagons ever. I felt like they deserved to be back on the table again, even if it wasn't their first choice of redeployment

I've got a friend who plays Dark Angels who is painting them up in marine colors so I can add my orky bitz on top of it and make it look nice and orky. Kinda wish IG could use them though, they're just such cool models...
