hello again, I was playing around with some extra bitz I had from my IG and I made a custom weapon that I'd like to use as a plasma gun. here's what it looks like:

it's basically a lasgun with the barrel cut off and replaced with a flamer nozzle with the tubes serving as the new barrels, then I made a kind of side mag from a lose mortar shell from the heavy weapons team. I like the look of it, but will my opponent be able to recognize that this is a plasma gun? would you allow someone to use this as a plasma gun?

i would allow it as long as i knew about before the game started .

but it looks more like a meltagun....at-least to me anyways

I also see it more as a flamer/meltagun than a plasma gun. Perhaps if it were painted to show more plasma-ey characteristics, it might be easier to see it that way.

It's a good conversion but the idea of a flamer weapon and how it looks is pretty ingrained in 40k. I'd think on the tabletop it may cause confusion; your opponent will forget what it is and then be very surprised when this 'flamer' suddenly takes out something it shouldn't! Joking aside, when it comes to painting it give it a paint job that clearly denotes it as a plasma weapon, i.e glowing plasma. Then they'll identify more with the 'glow' rather than the metal finish flamer nozzle.

Maybe take some staples and make them look like plasma coils. I think that would help.

Actually it was original supposed to be a meltagun, but then I realized I needed plasma guns more, but if it works as a meltagun I can come up with something more plasma gunny. watch this space.

sory, that looks like a flamer to me.

If you want a plasma gun, you'd have to add the heat sink to the top.

I've done something similar to yours, taking a bolter, filing down its middle section and replacing it with a GS'd heat sink. I replaced the sicle mag with a lasgun mag and added another lasgun mag along the back at the 45* slanted part. Then I slapped an IG flamer nozzle to the front, and just bored two holes into its business end. In so far as I do not forget, I could post pics in say.... 10 hours.

Ok I've made a prototype of the plasma gun, I call it a plasma caster.

here's a back view showing the plasma reservoir backpack:

so does this work as a plasma gun?

show us the weapon and it's workings, the power plant needs a bit more work, but it passes muster.

Like I said it's a prototype, but it's the IG flamer with the nozzle tubing cut off at the place where the handle goes and the missile launcher exit-thing put on as a heat shield. as far as the inner workings the plasma is heated in the backpack, then fed into the tube to the gun proper. which pressurizes it before launching a large glob of plasma.

1st one really looks moer like a flamer/meltagun.

2nd one could work with the right GS applications.

But I am not really stragiht about WYSIWYG as long as I know it before hand (I am myself proxying my sluggas as shootas)

the first one to me looks like a combi flamer, or flamer,

the second one looks like a plasma cannon, or an IG Plasma gun.

Just like Cultists, and Rebels, their special weapons look more like heavy weapons.

But like most players, I think, I would play it as you say it is, so long as it looks different then other models, and as long as you have used points for it.

That first one is cool but it definitely doesn't pass muster as a plasma gun. It makes a rad meltagun though, you should do your meltas like that.

I should really stop playing around with my bitz, because then this happens:

I've made some rocket archers. now my question is: would this be recognizable as a guy with a missile launcher?

that's what made me think people would recognize it as a missile launcher, but I like to check before I make a bunch of them. (BTW my blog lampshades this, check it out /end shameless self promotion)

Actually they have rockets in them that work like a javelin missile. The bow fires them into the air, then the rockets kick in and carry them the rest of the way.

Don't look for ork blood in the grunts, check the magos that dreamed up this device. She just noticed that the feudal worlders didn't really know how to shoot a gun, but they sure knew how to shoot a bow. So she gave them rocket arrows to shoot.

Good for you the bows and arrows are from the wargames factory rising sun series in the bow and matchlock ashigaru set if that helps.

RAMBO MISSILES AWESOME.

First weapon looks like combi-flamer, maybe a little like a meltagun. Second weapon still doesn't look like a plasma weapon although I can see little from the angle you took the picture.

Plasma weapons in 40k are usually square shaped, and the most important part is the area with the coils. A really cheap way to do a conversion is to get the khorne berzerker plasma pistols, which are mad cheap, then cut the handle part off and attach it to another gun.

The rocket arrows are great, but unless you told me otherwise I'd assume they were grenade launchers (a common weapon in IG squads, and operated by a single guardsman as these appear to be)

IG missile launchers are heavy weapon teams, and that usually entails two guardsmen on a large base.

Id let you use them. Just be sure to let your opponent know what's what. These all look pretty good.
