Space Marine Assault squads are generally considered to be... well... at least not as good as any other choice save the Land Speeder Storm. One of their problems is that, while more assaulty than say a tactical squad, they still fair poorly when compared to other specialized assault units. This piece of wargear is an attempt to rectify the problem without breaking them.

Assault Marine Dual Astares Chainswords

For Assault Marine Squads (or equivalent) from the following codexes, Space Marines, Black Templars, Dark Angels.

While each Space Marine is a one man army, a veteran of years of training and combat that has lead to the creation of the ultimate soldier, every single space marine knows he is not unbeatable, and that no matter how skilled they are, there is always somebody who is better than they. Assault Marines, while skilled in the art of combat, found that certain aspects of their training and wargear limited their effectiveness when compared to certain other assault specialists that they faced when fighting the enemies of the Imperium. Thus, several chapters have started giving a portion of their marines a much more intensive close combat training regimen. One such technique is the art of dual wielding the standard Astares Chainsword, which when done properly greatly increases the marines combat effectiveness. The only downside is that in order to accomadate this second blade, the Marine must abbandon their reliable bolt pistol when moving into combat.

Any model in an Assault Squad may replace their bolt pistol and close combat weapon with 2 Astares Chainswords for 3 points per model.
Astares Chainsword:
Range: Melee, Strength: User, AP -, Dual Wield

Dual Wield: As long as this model is using 2 Astares Chainswords in close combat, it's wielder gains +2 attacks for having 2 close combat weapons instead of +1, and both Astares Chainswords gain the rending USR.

EDIT: Replace rending with shred.

Maybe just the rending and +1A instead of +2A.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

+2A and rending is way too powerful...

I'd say maybe the dual chainswords give them the Shred special rule at most.

Just to be clear, this only gives them 3 attacks base. The attack on their profile plus the two from the dual chainswords. And to be honest, I meant to put Shred, but for some reason I had a minor brain fart and put rending instead. Oops. I'll fix that in the main post.

Thats 4A on the charge, 36 attacks with shred is just nasty, then the sargent gets his attacks as well.

I think +1 would be right because to get the bonus attack for close cmobat weapons, you need 2 of them and instead of having a chainsword and bolt pistol, they have 2 new chainswords.

Shred is definatly better than rending because then they can kill anything, which is not how they are portrayed in the fluff.

This is definatly a good idea as the normal guys are there just to be extra wounds for the seargent.

how about:
"If the Captain has a Jump Pack you can take Assault Marines as troops"
certainly be nice if they can capture objectives.

Hammer of Wrath would be cool as well, wait, they already have that. how has that been working out in games these days folks? I've never seen it used because I've barely played.

minus casualties, plus Hammer of Wrath.

The main problem i have with taking a captain with jump pack is that the command squad can't have them as well.

Yeah casualties will take effect but if the whole squad got there, then it would be 36.

then give them the option to have jump packs or give him the Heroic Intervention (or whatever the rule is called) so he can stride with the Vanguard Assault Marines.

That would just be sweet, first turn couple of locator beacon pods come down, then captain and vanguard come down and munch the faces off anything less than termies.
