Hi guys

I'm writing a 3 race base story and will be incorporating a battle between an Imperial and Chaos escort. I'm not sure how this would work.

Any thoughts or guidelines would be appreciated.

Remember that distance in 40k space battles is different to star wars and star trek (the movie atleast, never seen the tv show). It is LONG DISTANCE. People are like "Oh sh**, that was close" when the enemy misses them by a few km. A "close engagement" can be kilometres and kilometres away.

Also, the way in which the ships are controlled (MIUs and the like) are very interesting and a necessity to research before you write about them.

Have you chosen who turns up first, is it a ambush, is it cat and mouse, a straight up fight or they didnt know each other was there? hopefully these questions will give you an idea of a space battle that will fit with what your writting. Let me kow how it turns out.

The very basic storyline is that both ships are heading towards the planet which is where the second half of the story takes place. Currently I've got chaos arriving first at the edge of the system and making their way to the planet. The Imperial escort will arrive second, the battle ensues and both groups of characters leave their ships is landing craft. The Imperial landing craft will be damaged on it's way down, the Chaos landing craft will arrive reasonably safely as the chaos need it at the end; the imperials will get off the planet a different way. I'm happy for the 2 ships to be damaged, destroyed or just drop the characters off the run for it.

The Imperial escort to what?

Sounds like the chaos ship is going to get the jump on the Imperial, maybe the Imperial ship....? gets destroyed and the landing craft gets damaged by falling wreckage chasing them as it's making planet fall after escaping from the doomed ship. that should leave the chaos ship and landing craft undamaged to fit in with your story line.

The basic plot of the story is that it's a three storyline plot between an Inquisitor, Chaos lord and Eldar pathfinder. They, along with supporting characters, are going to the planet to recover an eldar artefact. The eldar are arriving via webway and the other 2 are arriving via ship. I didn't want a massive space battle so have worked the 2 forces to arrive in an escort class ship each. I'm not sure whether the inquisitor should arrive in a smaller ship which could do enough damage to the chaos ship to remove it from the area and get destroyed in the process, my knowledge of the 40K universe is a bit limited in places.

I'm planning to submit it to the Black library during their open session next year so I need to get a move on
