How does this work? I'm really confused. Fateweaver's ability states that all friendly units within 6" get to re-roll any failed invulnerable, armor, or cover saves. While misfortune/nullzone state that they make you re-roll all successful saving throws (invulns for nullzone). This question came up in two games that i had over the past two or three days. I play Fateweaver, and three days ago i was playing eldar. My opponent had Eldrad, and had misfortune for his psychic power. He then cast it on fateweaver. I really didn't know what to do at this point, so all we could decide was that they "cancelled out".

Same thing happened yesterday. I was playing some Space Marines and a librarian had nullzone. Once again i didn't know what to do so we just decided that they "cancelled out" again...

But honestly this doesn't seem right...

Any insight as to what we need to do? Please provide as much info you can from the book on this subject.

Thanks,
Thisisnotpancho

For all intents and purpouses they cancel each other out. You first roll a die and then reroll it no matter what, so just go with the first roll to save time.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Always played they cancel each other out. You cannot reroll a reroll so an example

Fateweaver rolls a 3 for his invul he passes. Nullzone states you must reroll it, you roll a 2. You may not reroll a reroll

However if he rolls a 2, you must reroll because of Fates ability. you roll a 3. Nullzone says you must reroll, but you can not reroll a reroll.

It's just easier to have them cancel each other out. It's fairly balanced and saves alot of time.

From the last 5th ed FAQ (and personally I think it works really well still):

Q: If a unit has a special rule that lets it re-roll failed
saves and is being affected by an enemy special rule
that makes them re-roll successful saves how is this
resolved? (p25)
A: Whilst you should technically roll all the dice and
then re-roll them, just roll the saves once and apply the
results to save time.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

JD James Dean Has the right idea.

Roll saves

Fateweavers rerolls for all failed saves.

Null zone and the like for all made saves.

Done. Only rolling the dice twice.

Apply Results

regardless of that I also said we just make them cancel each other out. It's from the 5th edition FAQ.
