What was the armour of the Ultramarines painted like just before the Heresy?
Were Apothecaries still marked with white?
Were there any Veterans with white Helmets?
Sergeants with Red Helmets?

IIRC they did the white with apothecaries, and red for sergeants, not sure on first company white

The different colored helmets came in after the battle for Calth but I think the white on apothecaries pre dates that.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

The Red Helmet was not used untill after Calth. Infact if you read Know No Fear, it is a mark of censure within the Chapter. However, after certain events, it becomes a mark of honor.

I would paint Pre-Heresy Ultra's in this Colour Scheme.
Avoid White, keep it to an minimum, use lots of Gold and Golden Yellow.
Above all you need to get hold of those Ultramarine Helmets as they are the most distinctive piece of Head gear.
On the subject of Apocatharies, I would do them in blue same as everyone else to reflect the fact that Roboute had not yet re-organised the Legion into Chapters.
Maxmini.eu and Puppetswar.eu do versions of the helmets, but I'm sure there are even better ones out there somewhere . Good luck, I will be watching to see what you come up with.

I did write it in my post above. Please re-read post, and make sure you do actually read the posts that people put up. Especially if you are asking for help, TL: DR makes you look ungrateful of peoples time and effort in posting.
Goto : MAXMINI.eu
If i were you, E-mail the guys at this website and see if they will make you a special pack of the 4th one across, if you don't ask you don't get. They did a special steampunk weapons one for me when I asked.
Also check out this..

When FW start releasing heresy stuff yhey're almost certainly going to make those helmets, if you can wait. The maxmini version is good, but you only get one per pack of 5, and while the puppetswar versions are nice, they all have crests that make them more suitable for characters.

If your trying to go for a pre-heresy look (and a cool looking ultramarines army in general) try painting the blue of the armour slightly darker than usual (looks allot better IMO, same with SW) also paint the "gold" trim as a very light bronze rather than pure gold.

Blue/gold in most of the art;
Apothecaries were usually marked out with a white shoulder pad on most of the legions in the HH books.

Oh confirmed that if you order from MAXMINI.eu
In the comments section ask for 10 x specific Helmet and he will supply them.
So ask for the 4th one along and you can make a nice Pre-Heresy Army.
