I haven't been following this whole deal but it's sad that we probably won't get to see any NHL this year. If they come to an agreement then it could start up again after Christmas right?

Remains to be seen whether the Swedish top league will allow its teams to sign any NHL-players or not.

Damn... just when my team is getting ready to kick arse!

IIRC the last lock out screwed up the NHL really bad, I wonder if this one will do the same, or if it will just flat out kill it?

It's a sad thing, as a kid I grew up with "Hockey Night in Canada"on the CBC, and I hate seeing the current state of the sport.

The '04 lockout was atrocious for the NHL. I'm a little shocked they're willing to do it all over again.

Its a power thing, they want the players union to, essentially, cease to be a significant force. Thankfully we now live in a court of public opinion, and players always win in that court.

This is such BS! The owners are bloody pigs who deserve to be tared, feathered & strung up by the entrails by the fans for being such huge, money-grubbing donkeycaves. They cry and cry about how they're so poor and that to make the league profitable, the players need to give-up their 54'ish% revenue share and drop it down to about 46%...
And then in one day the @$$holes go and blow $100.3 million on just under a dozen players to get them locked-up.

I blame both sides... and unfortunately, the Player's Union don't have the same powah as Baseball does.. so, I'd bet they'll blink first.

At the same time, fan opinion is against the owners and towards the players, so it really is up for grabs.

God am I thankful for these. There'll actually be some meaningfull conversations at the Faculty this winter.

you guys do realize the owners made a small fortune thanks to the last lockout, right? While they lost a season's revenue, they also saved a season's payroll. They then got a massive salary dump, and while they lost TV covereage, league revenues are actually higher now than before the lock out.

I've stopped caring much about the NHL, but I think the players will cave again. Unlike in the other sports, where TV money is so important, the NHL isn't worried about losing huge money,

The players will not cave this time. They got taken to the cleaners in the last lock out(which was a good thing because th NHL needed a revolution), and they're prepared this time. I know off the top of my head like 30-40 players who have already signed with European leagues. And I'm not a huge fan of hockey at all. The NHL owners are being soo hypocritical it's crazy. They signed all these crazy deals recently. Then claimed they want 20% back on the contracts they just signed within the last 2 weeks.......

If you want hockey watch the smaller leagues or stream the euro leagues. Cause this won't be over soon I don't think.

I go up to Cornell to watch the women's hockey games couple times a year.

We also have the AHL team Binghamton Senators

Had nothing to do with the best offer. Zach Parise was a prick the entire negations and insulted the Devil fan multiple times throughout the past several seasons. He didn't give any real answer to the GM on way or the other if he wanted to be a Devil or split.

He is like LeBron James but without the televised decision.

I hope the Red Wings crush him

Kovy just signed with a KHL team on Tuesday.

I think the chances of a hockey season are zero. :(

Yah and it's not jus the stars like kovalchuk, ovechkin, and seguin. It's no names too like shawn Thornton and Andrew ference that are leaving for euro leagues. The players have options. The owners only partially have options.
