Blue and red are at opposite ends of the spectrum so when you shine blue light at a red object it will appear black so difficult to pull of on a miniature.

I would have thought you'd need to drybrush white over the red before adding the blue over the top to stop the red showing through and making it look like a purple rash, otherwise it should work well.

Yeah, be subtle and remember that OSL can only ever make a surface lighter, never darker, take greyscale photos to check your work. The OSL should always look lighter. Remembering shadow behaviour is also important,

Example:


Mostly done with a mix of ultramarines blue and white. Very thin glazes.

Also this power sword, done with hawk turquoise and white, thin glazes again:
