Hey guys. I wanted to do my new tyranids with a red orange body and black carapace. I got two oranges from vallejo (orange fire and hot orange) and both are translucent. Is there a red orange color, like a dark orange, in the vallejo line? Or at least an opaque red I could add orange too?

Thanks for any input.

I'm not too familiar with the vallejo color line other than their military camo colors. However I find that Mechrite Red from GW is a good thick red base, and it is easy to highlight on Blazing Orange highlights for a great orange-red look.

If you are talking the Vallejo Game Color line, take a look at Bloody Red. #72010. It sounds about what you are looking for.

Unfortunately mechrite red doesn't exist anymore afte the re-do of the GW paint range. You'd be looking at Mephiston red now, although that is a more true red than an orange-red.

Mechrite Red was never an orange-red anyway, more like a purple-red. Mephiston Red would probably work even better than Mechrite for the orange-red effect.

There was a really good orange-red Tyranid I saw over on The Tyranid Hive a few months back, I believe they copied the method from the new GW painting guide, I'd have to really search to find it now, it was a while back, but it looked really good.

EDIT: This was the one I was thinking about, it's red-orange carapace rather than skin though...
