My first comment? I really like the layout, its great. Much better than other blogs I've seen linked to here. Bravo.

A useful comment now. While it is nicely written, and you have a point that it could be good fun to play with talking before the game and organizing a scenario and stuff, the idea behind this almost seems to be 'if its not this way, its not for fun', when a lot of other people can have fun with other, less story-driven kinds of games? I may have missed the point completely though...

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

2. One player determines the forces and mission and let's the opponent pick a side.

No. I didn't spend years of work and huge amounts of money building DKoK so that I could let someone else use my army. Plus, I don't trust anyone with my models.

3. Devise a "default" list for each race that are intentionally balanced against each other. These lists could include units not traditionally fielded so long as overall balance is preserved.

No. Not only does this remove the creativity of list building entirely (and along with it the ability to play games against a variety of opponents) it also kills any motivation to buy new stuff. Why spend more time and money on a new tank when I won't be allowed to use it in my "default" list? That just isn't fun at all.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
