Bit of back story:
Our son has started secondary school, and the place has a gaming club.
So, after years of playing Space Hulk and Talisman with me, he's finally branching out and getting into Warhammer (which i don't play).
Anyway, he's gone for Orc's.
Told a workmate, who also plays, and he very kindly gave my son a whole bunch of Ork's.
While he's going to be playing Fantasy and not 40K, we split the figures between us to paint up.
Now, i don't often paint Ork's and this is proving to be a fun lil' project and they're virtualy painting themselves, the details so defined and crisp:

While painting him, it reminds me a heck of a lot of the only time before that i've painted an Ork - the old Shokk Gun metal miniature from the late 80's/early 90's.
I loved that figure, so had it in mind to do one again.
VERY surprised to pick one up on the 'Bay for only a fiver and he's as good as i remembered him (altough i don't remember him coming with the Snotlings at all).
So i've made a start, and i'm copying what i'm doign with the fella above - have a very CAT shade of yellow for the technology.
One thing i'm sure i didn't do way back when is to paint the opposite of what i normally do - from skin outwards - but i'm doing it this way as it seems it'll be a lot easier:

He was originally packaged with a couple of bases of snotlings, as you needed them for ammunition. GW gradually decreased the number of snotlings in the packet, and I think towards the end of this mini's run they were just being sold separately.

It's a fantastic miniature, though, and I always regretted getting rid of my first one with my original Ork army. Was happy to pick up and paint another a couple of years back. Curious to see how this one turns out

Good to know this. I always wondered why the guy I bought my orks from threw in snotlings. Now I know what to do with them.

Salamanders 2nd Company [SM]: 500pts (painted)
Bad Moons [Orks]: 2,200pts (painted)

Yeah, in 2nd edition, you bought however many bases of snotlings you wanted to accompany him. While they were alive, they formed a unit with the gunner. Each time you fired the gun, you chose how many bases to send through, with the resultant damage being increased by the number of bases used.
