Well the title says it all.
I personally like to use them but i get annoyed when they come off later on or ''break'' when you try to put them on.

I never use them. They just annoy me. Anyway, I have my own unique CSM warband. I therefore don't need them.
Also, I think that it looks more "Chaotic" with the symbols painted on.

I use them when the decal is small and detailed. Like SW great company badges. However, I've found that using them straight off the paper doesn't work, especially on curved edges.
I'd recommend using some stuff called Micro Set and Micro Sol. Its a two part decal system that softens the decal and makes them go on smoother. I've been really happy with the results so far.

clearly you have never used winterdyne's brilliant decal tutorial.

I only recently started using decals and with this guide and some good tweezers, not had any issues. Check it out: http://i.imgur.com/7BccE.jpg

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

I use them, I use a lot of them. Most that I make, I do my own though. For the ones which are not my own production it generally is for things which I get decals from various 3rd party dealers.
I have even taken to using decals for a lot of PITA scratch building details...
