Deployment

I won the roll off for deployment and see who goes first, I decided to go first as I do not want Guard shooting at me first.

We roll for night fighting and it's on.

I deploy across the width of the table with a unit of Wraiths on each flank, behind them are the Ghost Arks in a line, then behind those are the CCBs and ABs. I decide to go against my judgement and deploy the Warriors on foot; they might give away a kill point, but I would rather them having a little bit of damage output than doing nothing. Plus if I keep them by a Ghost Ark I should be able to regenerate them.

Shaun deploys putting his Manticore behind the ruin centre of his deployment with Long Fangs and Priest supporting. Using the centre tower ruin, Shaun pops all his Chimeras behind to block LOS. Then on the right flank he puts both Leman Russes at the back, the S.W Rhino a little further down and Thunderwolves hiding in a large ruin.

* Tactical Notes

Right, Shaun has got a lot of threats, so I need to pick what to deal with. The Manticore I really do not like, but I cannot draw LOS to that at all. In order to take the Manticore out I'll have to move Wraiths up or use a Overlord, either of these units will take time to reach.

Leman Russes will be nasty for Wraiths, but other than that they do not worry me.

Thunderwolves do worry me though. If I can gauss them down and then assault them, then I should ok.

Long Fangs will need dealing with in time, especially as the Priest can JOTWW my Wraiths.

Turn 1

I declare my pulse to make it bright, so I can get some first turn ranged shooting in. I move all units forward. Then, like a numpty I move all vehicles flat out, so now I cannot shoot with the passengers inside the Ghost Arks...nice one...

Guard's first turn; Shaun brings three Chimeras around the left flank of the shrine ruin with Lone Wolf support. One Chimera lingers back. Thunderwolves come charging out of terrain and are about 7" away from assaulting my warlord Overlord.

Shooting; Manticore fires and smacks from Wraiths on the left flank; all are safe. CCS fires into the CBB on the left flank along with the supporting Chimeras, CCS manages to glance, which I save, though everything else bounces off. Leman Russes both fire into the Wraith unit on the right flank who are supporting the warlord Overlord; I lose three Wraiths after instagib.

Assault; Thunderwolves attempt to assault the warlord's CCB, but fail. Looks like we both forgot they had fleet.

* Tactical Notes

Ok, I made a boo boo first turn; I used my pulse so I could get some first turn shots in and then wasted it by moving my stuff. I've taken a bit of a hit (lost Wraiths), though it's not that bad.

Next turn I will use the Overlord on the left flank to sweep the CCS Chimera, Ghost Arks will move up to support and maybe the Wraiths, though I will need all Wraiths against the Thunderwolves as well as Ghost Ark support.

Turn 2

Necron turn; Overlord on the left flank moves 12" in the CCB and sweeps the CCS Chimera, it goes boom and two die. Two Ghost Arks on the left flank move up for gauss goodness along with AB support. Wraiths shoot from the left over to the Thunderwolves, while the warlord Overlord sweeps the Thunderwolves, though all are safe. The two ABs on the right flank move up along with the Warriors on foot and the remaining Ghost Ark.

Shooting; one Ghost Ark gauss's the CCS and the entire squad is wiped out. Gauss blasts the supporting Chimera, which loses some hull points, though lances finish it off and it goes boom; squad inside is then hit by Annihilation Barge and gauss and is wiped out. Thunderwolves get blasted by gauss fire, two Wolves snuff it. One Annihilation Barge fires into the Grey Hunter Rhino and it is down to two hull points. Both CCBs go flat out, warlord lands by the two Russes while the other lands next to the Manticore.

Assault; both Wraiths move into assault, one does hammer of wrath as 'walked'. Thunderwolves are wiped out after Wraiths take a single wound.

Guard second turn; Grey Hunters move up in their Rhino and bail out and move up further on foot, they are ready to drop some rapid fire justice. Chimera holding back moves up to also support them as do both Russes. Manticore repositions so it can draw direct sight, though gets cover from the ruin. Lone Wolf and last Chimera on the left flank move up to the rear of the Overlord's CCB.

Shooting; both Russes blast the small unit of Wraiths, though only manage to instagib one. Chimera and squad inside blasts the other squad, though does nothing. Grey Hunters have a pop at the closest unit, I take 10 wounds and pass 9 saves, one Wraith dies. Manticore drops 3 large blasts on the pair of Ghost Arks moving up the left flank; one is weapon destroyed and has lost the shield while the other goes boom; two Warriors die in the blast. Squad inside the Chimera behind the CCB, fires, the CCB is immobilised. Long Fangs fire into the Ark without a shield, but best they can do is take off a hull point (thanks to my pulse I popped at the start of Shaun's turn).

Assault; Lone Wolf attempts to assault the immobilised CCB, though fails just by 1 inch.

Kill points - Necrons: 5 Space Wolves: 1

* Tactical Notes

That was a pretty devasting turn for Shaun. Not only have I got 5 kill points but also got two extra points for killing the warlord and first blood.

While Shaun hasn't had a very good turn, at least he has taken out a Ghost Ark and scored some damage.

Next turn the Overlord will bail out the immobilised CCB and assault the Manticore while the other Overlord sweeps and assaults the Leman Russes. Wraiths will assault the Grey Hunters, though not before they eat gauss. Long Fangs will get blasted at as will the Lone Wolf.

Turn 3

Necrons' turn; Overlord bails out from the immobilised CCB and gets ready to assault the Manticore. Other Overlord on the right flank sweeps a Leman Russ; it goes bang, the Overlord then bails out ready to assault the other. ABs all hold position while all Ghost Arks move forward.

Shooting; ABs on the right flank take out the Rhino and Chimera; Veterans inside the Chimera are pinned. Gauss from Warriors on foot, Ghost Ark and Warriors inside the Ghost Ark deplete the Grey Hunters down to five men. AB on the left flank blasts the Long Fangs and kills the Rune Priest. Lone Wolf gets dakka'd, though only the Wolves die while terminator armour proves strong.

Assault; Wraiths assault the Grey Hunters and wipe them all out. Overlord assaults the remaining Leman Russ, which explodes after some stiff whacks. The other Overlord assaults the Manticore and it goes boom; Overlord takes shrapnel to the eye and takes a wound.

Guard turn; things are not going well for the Guard, but still have a chance to claim some points. Only movement is the last Chimera which swings around to laser beam the shield-less Ghost Ark.

Shooting; pinned Veterans snap fire into the Wraiths, one Wraith dies. Long Fangs fire into the shield-less Ghost Ark and it is now on a single hull point. Veterans inside the last Chimera blast the Overlord on foot and take off another wound.

Assault; Lone Wolf chops up the CCB with his chain fist, it goes boom, though Lone Wolf and Overlord are safe.

Kill points - Necrons: 12 Space Wolves: 2

* Tactical Notes

Well, looks like Shaun hasn't got a lot left. I am not for tabling people (unless they want to play on), so will see if Shaun can get some more points and call it a day this turn; he still could take out both my Overlords.

Turn 4

The wounded Overlord moves up to assault the Lone Wolf, while the other Overlord along with Wraith support moves to assault the pinned Veterans.

Shooting; I fire one AB into the Long Fangs and kill three Marines. I don't bother any more as the game appears to be firmly in my hands.

Assault; Warlord Overlord assaults the Veterans (should have assaulted with the Wraiths first), he gets blasted by snap fire and goes down! Wraiths assault and beat up the Veterans, who pass morale! The other Wraiths attempt to reach the Long Fangs but fail. Wounded Overlord assaults the Lone Wolf, who fails leadership for mindshackles and attacks himself and chops himself up into little bits.

At this point we call it a day, as Shaun only has Fangs left who can fire and Veterans who are going to get their face beat in.

Necrons win with many points.

Summary

Well, this is the typical case of hot dice vs cold dice. Even though I made two big mistakes this game (popping pulse and moving vehicles flat out and charging Overlord first), I managed to pull the game back thanks to strong dice. First turn I managed to make two vehicles go boom and slaughter the insides.

I can't say much for Shaun, things just didn't go his way. His Lone Wolf failed assault, so did his Thunderwolves (which forgot fleet), who could have killed my warlord. I don't think he made many saves when his tank when boom either.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Both armies are looking great mercer. I bet it's nice to have regular opponents that will come to your house.

Good tactical report as usual, Necrons are tough even without flyer spam.
