He's a unique character. You can give him hive guard to keep him alive, but aside from that, i Dont believe so.

The first part doesn't matter, see Marneus Calgar's option to replace power armour with Armour of Antilochus.
The second part is also incorrect, but probably a silly oversight - it's Tyrant Guard, not Hive Guard.
All that said, your conclusion was correct in this case.
Swarmlord is as it is; take it or leave it.

Whoops! I meant Tyrant guard (I dont play nids, i get them confused sometimes!

not really an upgrade in that you dont pay points for it but you can (and should) trade his powers for the new biomancy ones. makes him pretty beastly
