This is my entry for the Youngbloods GD UK 2012. It is a Space Marine Commander. The pictures are terrible, sorry. Tell me what you think, and what my chances are. Don't tell me my camera is bad, I know. Also, feel free to post your own entries for appreciation/criticism. Edit: Sorry I can't get the pics above to work, however, you may follow this link to my pics: http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-viewimage.jsp?i=412952&m=2&w=800

Allow me to help:
Don't use the [img] button to post images from the Dakka gallery, that only works if you have an image source that can be directly linked. Just go to your gallery, choose the picture you want, look under the picture on the right in the "Share this Picture," copy and paste the "Forums" one in the body of your post.
One thing to remember, it isn't often that a camera is "bad" as much as the pictures aren't being taken correctly. According to you image details you are using a Sony digital camera, that is more than enough to take decent pictures. Snoop around on the tutorial forum and look threads on miniature photography. You don't need professional-grade equipment to take nice pictures of toy soldiers!
As far as the actual mini goes... not bad, not bad at all. There are a few areas where the paint seems a little too thick and the armor is lacking a little depth, but overall I think it is a nice mini. The things that stand out: the power sword lightening effect is nicely done and the NMM on the backpack is also nicely executed. I see that it is a Youngbloods entry so I am guessing you aren't that old, so if that is the case you are shaping up to be an outstanding painter. Keep up the good work and good luck!

Thanks for posting those pics, as you might be able to tell, I can't use the forum properly.
My camera is actually relatively 'bad' though for real, the banner picture is the best focus it has, on macro. The camera is from about 2003 or something.
Thanks for the nice comments too.

Two things you could do to improve your pics is use a darker back drop, cameras have a tough time trying to find a balance between the colors of the mini and a bright white back drop. I just use the dark grey/black sheet from a book of construction paper. And it seems like your using direct sunlight. If you don't have a good light setup, cloudy weather or light shade works better. Its a nice, all around balanced light, easy on the eyes.
If your camera has the options, using the zoom a bit rather than holding it up close helps, as does using the micro setting, the flower shaped symbol.
As far as the mini goes, did you try zenithal highlighting? The blending on the blues is done well, but could be brought out a bit more with regular highlighting. Judges like it if you can display strengths in multiple techniques. And the brightness of the symbol on the banner could be toned down a bit and the corners sharpened.
Other than that, the nmm is done well as said above. More comments could be made about the sword and other details if better pics were taken.
