Dakka, I need your help/advice. I'm considering purchasing a set of steel legion, but i have never painted metal mini's! I just want to know the dificulty to pay off ratio. Also I want to know if there's any advice or tips for doing so?

They are just like painting anything else. The only real difference is that all the clean up has to be done with files. Also, if you use an airbrush and Vallejo Surface Primer, don't. Just use a regular rattle can to prime. As awesome as the Vallejo primer is, it doesn't behave as well on metal as it does on plastic.

I haven't gotten into airbrushing as of yet, I actually like painting by hand. But I appreciate the advice.

If you are painting directly onto the metal, you're doing it wrong.

I know I'm going to need to prime first, are there any reccomendations on primers? Still a painting novice, so the easier the better!

Also constructive criticism would be appreciated! Thanks!

Like the first poster said in this thread, it is literally exactly like painting a plastic model. So whatever you have used so far for the models that you have already painted, or have already started painting will work fine for your metal models.

The biggest difference is in assembly, as mentioned you will have to use files to do the clean up on mold lines, you will also have to use super glue or epoxy to stick the models together, as plastic glue will NOT work.

Also and this is a big one. Make sure you put some kind of varnish over the paint job once its done. Not sure why but paint rubs off metal, it just does.
