Subject: My bro's getting grey knights! Any tips to help him?

My little brother's been forced into the world of warhammer 40k, and he want's grey knights. I told him how hw would be looked down upon, but he isn't going to be a serious player, but more of a collector. He still want's to get a proper army though.
I have no idea how grey knights play and what the most common models are. So could you guys please help me help him get started on grey knights? Thank you!

Thou shalt not refer to the Adeptus Soritas as "Bolter Biatches" nor shalt thou go anywhere near our sisters during the time of the "Red Rage," lest thou wishes to be the first human to enter orbit without the aid of a shuttle.

Two wound terminators have some pretty nice staying power in 6th edition.

Termies would be the best way to go probably, failing that a few boxes of standard Grey Knights for Strike/Interceptors or even purifiers.

Termis are deffinitely a great foundation especially for collectors, it's just the matter of getting a game when you do so. Dragowing isn't all that fun to play against, and this thread should explain to you what I mean

A fully maxed out Draigowing is no fun to play against.
If you start leaving some of the options at home, like the Bro Banner/Apothecary/not maxing out on just Psycannons, not always taking Prescience, etc... the army becomes managable for alot of other non-tournament lists.
This doesn't mean you can't take those options, just don't take ALL of them at once!
Orks, Daemons, Tyranids, (ironically) GK's especially have very few decently ranged high strength/low ap guns, meaning they either have to try and tackle those two wound termies in assaults, (*NOT* going to happen unless they've also brought a deathstar of their own!), or else you force your opponent to play a very, very boring and dull pts denial game in which they simply avoid your few units while removing handfulls of their models in your shooting phases.
But, if you add some other options and avoid min/maxing the options on the Pallies themselves, then most lists you run across should have a good chance to play a closely fought game in which both players have a decent chance to kill lots of stuff!
Oh, and never, ever, EVER! use Warp Quake except to protect your own units from Flamers of Tzeentch/any Breath of Chaos user if/when you play against a poor Daemons of Chaos opponent!

Draigowing isn't that tough to beat. I'd say in the local scene for me its barely above 60% wins. Once you've seen it go off in your face it can be planned around pretty easily.
Believe it or not, a Tau player cleaned up a somewhat experienced GK player without lossing a model last meeting (a jaw drop moment for us all). It was a perfect store. Purge the Alien, with the Tau player bunkering down with SM allies in a FoR, GK player had some awful rolls at the wrong time, and the Tau player got to pull of a delayed baby farsight bomb on some isolated Paladins late game, but still it happened and it wasn't due to the newb factor.

If you combat squad a single unit with Warp Quake and spread out as far as you can you can cut off pretty much the entire table. They'll have to deep strike in the far corner to avoid mishap, which should allow you to win. And then harvest their tears as they ragequit.
Fixed that for you.

It's no fun to play against if you have a bad army. It's not your fault if you bring Draigowing and your opponent brings a bad list. Really, they should stop being TFG and playing bad lists that deny you the fun of a challenging game.
