I have a few questions concerning vehicles and area cover life forest(5+ cover save).
For example, I have a Chaos Defiler in a Forest but his front side is fully exposed. Does he have no cover at all even if 90% of the model is still in the forest?
Another thing, if the Defiler in 100% in the forest, does he have 4+ cover save instead of 5+ since its front side is completely into cover or this rule only applies if the enemy model has no LoS on the vehicle's front side?

Vehicles only get cover saves if 25% or more of the facing is physically hidden. Area terrain does nothing for them on its own.

Thats why its important to have area terrain have some movable bits if you want it to give cover.
The local house rule is that(using a forest as an example) if the trees in the forest can be used to obscure the model in question it gets the cover. This is done by moving the trees within the base of the forest.

Some area terrain like forest have trees, if the shots is firing through the trees, this confers cover save even though the trees themselves don't obscure 25% of the model.

I know it was like that in 5th for non-vehicle models. Did they change it to include all models?
I havn't had a chance to really examine the cover rules, school and all.

In the BRB p.91, it says (bottom of the page) : ''Models in area terrain receive 5+ cover save, regardless of whether or not they are 25% obscured.''
Also, p.102 : '' Models within a forest's boundary benefit from 5+ cover save''. The trees themselves do not obscure vision, they are just used to represent boundaries.
And I find nothing in the vehicles' rules that specify anything for vehicles and area terrain....
That would mean, my defiler has 5+ cover save even if he has 1% of the model in the area terrain

The vehicle rules say they need to be obscured to gain the cover save. Check P.74

So, I can rearrange the trees to obscure 25% of my model?
Can I even place all tree of a 4 tree forest to create of large cover for multiples walkers?

As long as it is done before the match starts.

p75 first bullet is explicit on the need for 25% obscurement (obsucration? cover!).

Sure, I'll let you do that. And then right before I shoot, I'll point out this from page 91, area terrain:
"Remember, however, to put them back where they originally were................................."
Course, I suppose you could play the forest as not being area terrain to get around that.
