Subject: Devestator squads, are they worth it?

Like the title says, are devestator squads worht it in a blood angels assault list? I need to fill the last roughly 200-250 points and saw devestator squads as a cheap and easy alternative considering I'm kind of on a budget. I need a unit(s) that can fill out the last rough estimate of points while staying under roughly $80.00. Any suggestions?

They are not a bad choice generally for the BA codex.
They are vastly over pointed in C:SM.
They are a near no-brainer in C:SW
Unless you have a specific roll to fill, I think Predators and/or vindicators are the way to go for C:BA because they are "fast" and therefore are more shooty and easier to re-position.

Why do you even need to considering them, if your doing a DoA army then wouldn't it make sense to pack another unit in? Or expand or include a DC?
Can't say much without seeing your list and seeing what's the best for the list.

You can take a librarian with divination, join him to your 4X missile dev squad, and use the reroll power to bullseye flyers. Devs are more resilient against flyer counterfire than things like quad guns, and they're still useful even if your opponent doesn't have flyers.
Regular SM can't do that because they don't get divination.

Yeah i must agree with flavius i run a simple DA libby with my 4 lascannon devastators and they chew flyers up, BA can run a similiar combo.

I would only suggest missile launchers. This makes them a lot of $.
Isn't a stormraven a lot of points for the $?
Else three attack bikes with MM with priest on bike.
Landspeeders in a variety of configurations.
Couple of preds.
Those do a similar enough job to the dev. squad.
Another squad or honour guard with plasma squad would probably be a nice addition to your list.

Roughly 200-250 points for what, a 1500 point list or a 2000 point list? It's a huge difference.
I run 4x missile launcher devs only, and then only in games of 1500 or lower. It works pretty well for me.

This is reasonable although i would prefer the bodies than a tank and believe it should cost more for devs
Broadly speaking if they kitted out they get the job done. 4 great weapons, one at BS5, sensational. Spare bodies to soak wounds, even better.

8 was the magic number for me back in the day: Serg., 4 Heavies, 3 body bags. Of course shooting has changes quite a bit so that may not hold up anymore what with remove from closest and TLOS.

I have never had an issue using Devestators except for when they had nothing to shoot because the other guy managed to hide everything. Doing an all Missile team is tricky though as the dev kit only comes with one so unless you already have the four missile launchers it isnt easy to do and if you have three just buy another tactical squad for the last one. In the past I have always ran them in ten man squads and the new rules in some ways made that more viable as they can sometimes control objectives for you. Extra wounds will always help if you keep them in cover and adding a divination libby just makes it all that much better.

You'll need to buy missile launchers from bit sites. If you want to keep them under $80, that's easy. Tactical Squad: $37.25 ($29.80 from TheWarStore) Devastator squad: $35.00 ($28.00 from TheWarStore) 2x Missile Launcher BIts 6.25 each, plus $3 S/H. For $62.30: 15 space marine bodies 4x missile Launchers ( Dev, tac, plus 2 bits) 1x multi-melta ( Dev box) 2x heavy bolters ( Dev Box) 2x lascannons ( Dev Box) 2x plasma cannons. ( Dev Box) 1x Flamer ( Tac Box) 1x Melta Gun ( Tac Box) 1x Plasma Gun ( Tac Box) Plus the sergeant options from the Tac box (Power fist, chainsword, power sword, plasma pistol, bolt pistol) and the cool sergeant backpack from the Dev box.

It depends on what weapons you give them. The 4 ML, or 4 HB squad are the second most weapon (point-gun ratio) dense squad in the army, beaten only by land speeders. The problem is that when you try to want to use a 4 PG or 4 LC squad, it starts getting expensive.
