Hiya,
A friend recently gave me the broken and messed up remains of his Eldar which I fixed up and with some time and effort they have turned out quite nice.
However I need some advice about whether the list I have made from the models I've got is ok to play with, what I should buy and any advice on a few tweaks and changes.
I am a brand new eldar player but I have looked around and it seems like I have a good basis for a footdar army list.
Avatar - 155pts
10 Dire Avengers with Exarch with Bladestorm, Defend and Diresword (these are proxied with guardians atm) - 172pts
5 Rangers - 95pts
5 Rangers - 95pts
5 Rangers - 95pts
5 Swooping Hawks with Exarch with Hawk's Talon - 127pts
Wraithlord with Brightlance and Scatterlaser - 150pts
Wraithlord with Scatterlaser - 110pts
999pts
Thanks a lot for reading.

Interesting list, I think you will have trouble with any mech lists or DE specifically, as their poison on the MC's and abundance of fast vehicles will be hard to deal with. Swooping Hawks are fun but hard to use, and kind of a one-hit wonder. A Farseer, or a transport for the Dire Avengers, may be a better use of the 127 points you've dropped on the Swooping Hawks. Otherwise, I think the list will do quite well. (At least, it should be fun!) Automatically Appended Next Post: You'll definitely want a Farseer at least to throw around some Fortune and Guide or Doom on key units, and to keep your 2 Wraithlords from suffering Wraithsight. Maybe find tough unit you can advance him with to prevent him from being shot up.

To start, rangers are VASTLY overrated. Look at the stats: they are bs4 marine scouts with camo cloaks and less armor (matters vs flamers). No one uses marine scouts. I run a exodite world force with 30 rangers but i rarely ever run them in games. Even less useful in 5th than 6th thanks to the cover save nerf and fearless buff. They were great in the 3.5 craftworld codex with the Alaitoc army, but the 4th codex really hit them hard.
DA should not have both defend and bladestorm. Drop defend and the diresword (it is S3 still, not very useful) and grab 2 catapults for a 154 point squad. Get 2 or 3 of these as they are much more effective troops.
If wraithlords have brightlance, its probably better to go EML. Or you could do EML/scatter for better infantry hunting. Brightlance/scatter is just mixing usefulness which normally doesnt end up well.
Grab runes of warding on your farseer. Too good for an upgrade that cheap. 1/2 of the time it wont be useful, but the other 1/2 it will shut down psykers hard.
Drop guide for doom. 33% more damage from DA shots on T4, 80% more damage on T6. Also can provide a much needed assistance if you get locked in melee. Sure, DA arent melee powerhouses, but 2-3 squads all charging in melee with doom will break anything bar terminators.
Grabbing a squad of fire dragons to stick the farseer is pretty useful. With multiple squads of DA fortune isnt useful because they just target the ones not fortuned. However, FD MUST be delt with or they will wreck whole armies. Therefore, the enemy will waste a lot of fire shooting at 4+ fortuned FD that are behind the wraithlords and avatar.

I highly disagree about rangers being worse this edition. That is utterly false. I regularly take them, 10 man squad. They can move and still snap shot now, not tht I plan on moving them much but it has to happen sometimes. The allocation of a to ht of 6 is nice. That shot also ignores armour. There is a second chance to get an ap2 shot on the to sound roll as well. If you can support them with a doom, they can really pick some things out. They can also go to ground and fire snap shots now as well. And the 6's are what really counts anyway so it's not that big of a deal. When on ground in a ruin, they have a 2+ cover. If you have the ability to guide and doom support, they really shine. So I really can't see any way possible that they have gotten worse in 6th. And to compare them to scouts and say that SM players don't take them so no one should take rangers.... That's just dumb. Two entirely different codecs. Cross comparison just cant be don't like that. Automatically Appended Next Post: I would also drop the dire sword for a power weapon shimmer shield. Ad give the exarch blade storm too. Running a guide and doom seer with that group is also very good. Slap them in a serpent too. With the Wraithlords I'd have one take EML and BRight lance and the other with scatter laser and Shuriken cannon.
For the farseer, if you run him with the dire avengers, I'd suggest doom, guide, runes of warding and runes of witnessing.

Man, I don't know..about 15% of your army is not doing much for most of the games except to just keeping the land-lubbers from running away? At such small game-pts, might as well get another shooty WL.
And only 1 BL for anti-tank is not going to be enough. If you really like/want WLs as your dedicated anti-tank platform (which I don't quite recommend actually) but at the same time you are pressed for points, I'd suggest taking 3 x WLs all with BL/EML & W-Sword.
About the DAVU, if you think they'd work well, then good for you. Personally, as the bodyguard for the Farseer, I'd rather take a Harlequins sqd for their superior defensive capabilities.
Another option is taking a 6-men GJBs with 2 shu-cnns instead. The Farseer would have to ride a j/bike too of course & change his psy-powers to Fortune & Doom. Thus you'd still have a scoring unit but 1 which is very mobile, at T4, better svs (3+ armour/5+ cover with Fortune), 6 x S6 shots at 36" threat range & 10 x t/l S4 shots at 24" threat range (same threat range as the DAVU). Total no. of shots are just 6-shots less than your DAVU, but they are more versatile as they are easier to get into firing positions (move-shoot-scoot), or objective denial, or capturing Relic or linebreaking..etc..
Anyway..all the best.

I disagree, MarshallDin. The advantage of the Avatar is fear, plus he's a fire magnet. Especially if you can fortune him first few turns ... it can be mind game with your opponent. Either he survives and crashes into their army, or they waste lots of firepower trying to kill him.
I can 2nd the option for the Jetbike unit, but I'm trying to work with what you have, the 8 Jetbikes, + warlock and Farseer is an expensive investment to do it right. Dire Avengers and Rangers should get the job done.
Your list will be fairly static and defensive, which isn't a bad thing. You can camp everything in a corner, making use of cover and your deployment to castle up and force your opponent to come to you while you shoot freely at them.
