I'm having my second ever game of 40k next week, it's a 1000pt battle vs either Orks or Eldar, potentially.

I had a 500pt battle against two ork squads yesterday and got my tactics a bit wrong, so I got beat haha

Can anyone suggest a good list for me? I'm totally new at all this stuff lol

I've got Mephiston, Dante, Astorath the Grim, Gabriel Seth (since i've got Flesh Tearer colours), a librarian, a chaplain with jump pack, a sanguinary priest, a 5 man sanguinary guard squad, 10 x man terminators, 20 x assault troops, 5 x devastator squad, 17 x tactical squad, a 5 x command squad, a land speeder, a land speeder storm, a furioso librarian dreadnought, a regular dreadnought, a drop pod, a baal predator, 2 x predators, and a razorback, or rhino if i take the weapon off.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Stu

I was thinking of

3 x predators, 1 x baal predator without any sponsons, 2 x 10 man squads of assault marines, a sanguinary priest with one squad, and a librarian with the other?

2x 10man Assault Squad, meltagun and power lance in each, comes to ~210 points each. Librarian with Wings and Sanguine Sword, 100ish pts. A pair or trio of Land Speeders, kit some with Multi-Meltas and others with Heavy Flamers. Maybe 2:1 flamers to meltas or vice versa depending on you opponent. That's... another 200ish points I believe. Leaves you with 300 or so to mess around with.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Cool, is that list good against both, or leaning towards Eldar?

It's fairly balanced. Assault Marines are universally good as troop killers and tank busters with the lance and meltagun. Add meltabombs for more bang. The lance, on the charge and with FC (maybe add priests) instant-kills a lot of Eldar (Str 6 AP3 on the charge, Str 4 AP4 otherwise). Baal preds I've never been a fan of, since you can get two land speeders for the price of one Baal pred, and they can both fire two weapons each. Two platforms 2 HP each firing 2 weapons each vs one platform 3 HP and 2 weapons. Kit them flamers and watch all the eldar and ork mobs melt or meltas to bust tanks. Librarian plays a Mephiston acting job and cuts people to bits with his Str 10 weapon. Spend the remaining ~300pts kitting the army to handle one enemy over the other.

I'll start tweaking that over the next week
