New 40K player looking for some allies for Necrons.
Who would make better allies for a main Necron force at 1500 points? Grey Knights or Chaos? I think a psyker or troops that can hold an objective if assaulted would be useful. I don't know a whole lot about either army except for the new Chaos models look freakin ridiculous.
Could you suggest which detachment (200-400) points for the recommended ally would be useful?

At 1500 Points, I think you'd be better served by having a full Necron force.
IMO, Necrons really don't need any allies. They can handle every situation pretty well, through their own codex. The only thing they really lack is Psychic defence.

Necrons don't need allies, but they make great allies for armies that really want a turn of night fighting.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Though, the temptation to run Chaos Iron Warriors with Necron "Iron" Warriors is more than a little tempting...

I second the opinion of not being in actual need of allies. What does work, however, is getting some psychic defense via allies e.g. by having a few GK back your psychic defense up as Necrons hardly have any sort of proper psychic defense besides Gloom Prisms.

In fact, I'd generally consider allies is larger pt games, 1750+ pts.
In terms of CSM, I'd wait until the new codex comes out.

Well, CSM troops and Havocs have no access to missile launchers /but to autocannons) in the current codex. I guess they will not have any access to flak rocket launchers.

Not sure if we have different codexes but I'm pretty sure CSMs can buy a missile launchers for an expensive 20pts.
As for allies a unit of immortals with anrakyr in a nightscythe is a great investment. Add in a doomscythe as the heavy and you have 2 great flyers, a deadly infantry unit, and a nasty HQ for about 500pts.

Thinking about getting Space Wolves allies...Njal and a few troops. Sure, they're tier 1 allies, but you get a 3+ save vs. psychic powers and some cool abilites to play around with. Troops for some melee punch.
Very strong psychic defense and melee stuff, pretty much what Necrons heavily need.
Desperate allies, though, might be a major pita.

In regard of the new CSM codex released...this: Fabius Bile appears to be an awesome HQ choice for low points. Fearless, VotlW, T4, 3+/5+ FNP5 attacks at S5 that have the Instant Death rule (wut.)...good in melee. On top of that, he also gets to have a very strong ranged weapon..sure, no AP, but 2+ poison. Yes please? And ON TOP of that, you get to improve 1 squad of CSM...+1S and fearless? Yeah. To me, he looks like the best guy to ally with. You get a good HQ, your mandatory troop choice are tin cans that get further improvement and afterwards, you can get the stuff you really allied for (like flakk Havocs). Take a squad of 10 CSM, give each one a hand weapon, Mark of Khorne, that already makes them have 4 attacks at S5 per model on the charge...40 S5 attacks at I4? Yes please. Add Icon of Wrath and you get 40 S6 attacks at I4 at the charge on a fearless unit. Cost the same as DC and can score. SOLD! /e: Actually, add +1 attack for the champion and the 7 attacks for Fabius while you're at it. Holy crap, that's a lot of attacks. Charging isn't too hard either since you're allowed to re-roll the charge distance.

Thanks for pointing out. Bile, this sucker, mutated finally into something useful.
How about the wargear for CSM troops?

It depends on your points limit / purpose you planned them to fulfill. I'd try to keep them cheap. I'd use them to provide my Necrons with a strong melee presence, ready to even take on terminators (as you will force a lot of saves) or at least tie them up (due to Fearless). Mark of Khorne, Icon of Khorne, additonal hand weapon for the +1A. Replace the bolter or not? Well, on the one hand, you lose on ranged damage output, but on the other hand, you save 20 points. Worth it? If I can get it in, I'd like them to keep the bolter weapons as you get about 7 more S4 hits per turn and can thin enemies out before they get closer. Before assaulting, you shoot your bolter pistols. Additional weapons...hm. Will you need them? Getting one heavy weapon in does not need to be a bad idea if you can affor doing so. A lascannon for 20 points isn't too shabby and you still keep your +1A for the bolt pistol. Fabius, however, is a beast in a challenge. He does not have any AP, but on the other hand, a single unsaved wound immediately wins the duel. I don't know if I'd want him in a challenge though, it depends on the enemy. While he will definitely murder his enemy, attacking the squad and leaving the Aspiring Champion to fight the duel doesn't seem to be too bad of an idea either.

Two questions.
1) How many points you figure that CC squad will be?
2) Are Chaos allies of convenience? i.e. can they take objectives?
