So I have a Caestus assault ram, of course it has skyfire and it has a mean ap1 large blast template weapon, if I declare skyfire at the beginning of its shooting phase can I not use the template weapon?

Under the 'hard to hit' rule it states templates cannot be snap shotted, thats fine I knew that but I have skyfire, so can I skyfire a template? again under the heading hard to hit it says after the cannot snap shot a temples it has a full stop and no templates can hit flyers or something to that degree

Blast weapons that can be fired with Skyfire still cannot hit Zooming Flyers/Swooping FMC. It can however hit skimmers.

You can't fire it, as there are (likely) no legal targets for a skyfired template.

The problem is basically you couldn't 'hit' anything with it: You can't hit ground troops with it in skyfire mode because you would need to roll a 6 to hit them (which you can't do with a template, blast, or large blast), and you can't hit fliers with it at all as they are immune to blasts, templates, and large blasts.

Maybe you can still hit skimmers with it? but adding skyfire to it in that specific case would be essentially pointless.

Yep, just read the skyfire rules and it doesnt say it counter acts hard to hit, just that I use my normal BS,.

So if I run my assault ram its ramming only (I guess thats why they give it ram....

But why give it skyfire when it cannot skyfire its magna melta or missiles is beyound me :(

All fliers can 'choose' to benefit from the skyfire rule for any given shooting phase, the only restriction is that it would then apply to all the weapons on the vehicle. (which means some of them would have issues like you've described above)

That said you can choose to fire them without the skyfire rule too. Once again though you cannot pick and choose; it's only one or the other.

Would ramming with the assault ram require skyfire? as it is done in the movement phase (as per ram which is a type of tank shock? from what i understand)

Both the weapons on the assault ram are templates though so skyfire is pointless.

I believe that zooming fliers cannot tank shock or ram, as per their rules. It turns out the ram has an exception to that, so i believe it'd work exactly like the listing for vehicles' ramming as modified by it's own rules-text.

(for what it's worth, a ramming attack is not a weapon on the vehicle, and so isn't subject to the rules for such. This means you do not need to declare that you are using the skyfire rules for it to work.)

The assault ram has a special rule that states it may ram when zooming, this is the Caetus assault ram we are talking about FW FA marine unit
