Okay, here is my dilemma, back when I was new to 40k I bought some Kasrkins, for a very good reason, they look awesome. I'm no veteran yet, but after a few games I realized, Kasrkins aren't really all that useful or so I seem to think. I still field them every game so I can look at them and show off, but they never do all that much, every mission I sent them on, was a suicide mission. My question is, what are some good tactic for my Kasrkins? I am thinking about getting them a plasma and meltagun, will that help?

My roommate insists I throw them away, which is a tactic he is used to because he plays Orks, but I don't know.

First, welcome to dakka.

Second, run your kasrkins as storm troopers, which are doing well this edition.

First off, any unit in 40K can be effective, if used properly at the right time.

I want you to sort this one out for yourself.

Ask yourself, "what are the strengths of this unit?"

And, "what are it's weaknesses?"

Finally, "what did the designers intend this unit to do?" (Hint: Reading the unit description will give you an idea).

ANY unit in 40K can be effective, this entire notion that you would "throw them away" is just infantile.

Thank you Happygrunt, good to be here.

Well, I do run them as Storm Troopers, simply because they are in the codex. I usually use Airborne Assault so I get that nice extra scatter die roll.

They do good as Storm Troopers or Carapace Veterans as that is the armor they have on (4+).

If your stormies are only filling suicide roles, then don't use them in a suicide role.

I've been taking 30 stormies as of late (and would take more if it were not that I'm restricted by FOC), and they've been fantastic. En masse, they make a fantastic disruption and denial tool. 30 stormies show up on a weakly held objective, wipe off the scoring unit, and then survive the hell that comes against them to keep it contested.

Also, when that many stormies arrive (perhaps along with some other outflankers), you basically open up a second entire battle within a battle. It's sort of like a hammer and anvil strategy, except that the rest of your forces are free to do other stuff, so it's more of a sword and dagger strategy.

I'll direct you to this game and this game for examples of this.

Of course, if you want to use them as cheap suicide units, that's fine too. 105 points isn't actually THAT terrible for delivering something with armorbane and Ap1 somewhere.

I've had the displeasure to use them in small units. They don't tend to do a lot. For STs to be useful you really have to bring a lot.
I'd love to include them but I feel they have a large points cost for something that requires spamming for them to achieve anything.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Most people take the 5 man squad and DS them with meltas/plasmas behind a juicy target.

It can either go really well, or horribly wrong.

If you want them to be more than suicide squads, they NEED to be directly supported by other elements. I personally use two 5 man squads with al rahems outflanking platoon and a vulture or vendetta. When they all show up en masse, the enemy is oversaturated with targets. Its not enough to just throw them downfield. They need buddies, either through other deepstriking/outflanking units, or more stormtroopers.
