Hey fellas, I wanted to get my hands on the book with the Elysians in it, popped into the local GW, they had none, thought 'oh well, I'll just order it from FW themselves'. Then this; http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Armour_Books/IMPERIAL-ARMOUR-VOLUME-EIGHT---RAID-ON-KASTOREL-NOVEM.html
Out of stock. Does it 'restock' at the beginning of next month or something? Or do Forge world only make X copies of a book? Im just wondering, because if its the latter, than I will be very bummed.

If it's out of stock they'd have to re-print it, which seems unlikely since they haven't reprinted the older volumes that are out of stock.
Ebay is your friend in this case.

Bummer, thanks though, I won't wait around for them to re-print it then. Seems Ebay is out, as is amazon. Swapshop it is!

This is true, but it has more to do with the fact that the older out of stock books are from 3rd and 4th edition and have a lot of rules that would need to be revised to work in modern 40k. There's not much point in ordering another print run when you're going to publish an updated version anyway (someday, they've said). IA8, on the other hand, is a late 5th edition book and perfectly useable if you get the hull point update pdf for the vehicles. If sales have been good enough to sell out the first print run the sensible thing to do would be to get another one asap.
Of course it could just be a temporary thing, I've seen items go out of stock for a couple days (just as I'm about to buy them) and then be back very soon. You might want to just wait a bit and see if it comes back before dealing with used copies.

Don't do this. FW are horrible about answering emails, if you have a question you actually want answered you should call them about it. Or post it on their facebook page, which gives you a 50/50 shot of getting it answered depending on when exactly you ask it, which is far better than to 0% chance of getting an email answer.

And we have a thread in Tournament Discussions where people are arguing that FW should be forced on everyone because the rules are just as readily available as GW codices.
Just saying, this sounds like an availability issue to me. Made even sweeter by the fact that you have no clue when, or if, the book will ever be back in stock.

Which is literally the only 40k army that currently doesn't have a codex. It's an anomaly and isn't a fair comparison.

And it's the only FW book (with current rules) that is out of stock. The only reason it isn't a fair comparison is that IA8 will probably be back in stock soon, while the SoB "codex" won't.

Forgeworld is releasing an imperial guard book that includes all the FW guard units/vehicals. Wait until then (before the new year), and you'll also have the other juicy stuff to look at.

You know that for certain? It could be getting prepped for a digital release right now for all we know. And even if I don't currently own an iPad that would still make it more accessible than Forge World since I don't have to wait several weeks for it to be shipped overseas.
Speaking of which, since we're on the subject, which FW books do have current rules in them? Because I don't have a fething clue. Someone said something about Imperial Armour: Apocalypse but there are at least 3-4 of those books alone.

No, I don't know it, but why should we assume that it is? As far as we know it was a one-time release and now they're back to not caring at all about SoB.
Speaking of which, since we're on the subject, which FW books do have current rules in them? Because I don't have a fething clue. Someone said something about Imperial Armour: Apocalypse but there are at least 3-4 of those books alone.
The rules (including almost all units) are in IA:Apocalypse (second edition, the only one for sale now), IA:Apocalypse II, and IA:Aeronautica.
There are army lists in IA 7-11 for various factions, but few (if any) separate units that aren't in one of the three above. Well, there are a couple Apocalypse formations in each book, but nothing that matters.
There are pdf updates (once they're fixed for 6th) for the army lists that used to be in IA 4-6 and a few units which needed rule updates.
So, if you get the three Apocalypse/Aeronautica books and download the pdfs you'll have pretty much all the current rules. There might be a unit or two missing, but if there are any they're the weak fluff-focused ones that nobody ever uses.

Don't bother mate, he's not actually interested in finding any of those out, or he'd have spent the two minutes it takes to ascertain the information on his own; it's about maintaining his fiction that FW rules are either A; hard to find, and thus unfair in tournaments or B; too expensive because you have to buy ALL the hardback books, and thus are unfair in tournaments.
I mean hells bells, you can still get the rules for every unit in IA1 and 2 for free from the FW website just by googling " IA1 update" and " IA2 update", which leaves what, the DKoK artillery and the Tauros rules, and about three Xenos units?
And within the next year or so, you'll be able to get every Guard, Marine, and Flyer-related rule fully updated for 6th by purchasing 3 books total - Aeronautica, IA1 2nd Edition, and IA2 2nd Edition.

Keep in mind that Tyranid terrain was listed as out of stock for maybe 2 years, before they acknowledged that they won't make them anymore. IA3 is also out of stock for more than a year IIRC. Just saying.

And my anecdotal advice is that the only response I've ever received from FW by email is the automated "your message has been received" notification. On the other hand, every time I've called them I've had my problems fixed immediately. And anecdotal evidence from looking at their facebook page suggests this is a pretty common trend. The most frequent comment posted seems to be some variant of "I emailed you about X a month ago, what's going on?" followed by someone from FW saying "sorry, our email is really busy this week, but we'll take a look at it".
IA3 is also out of stock for more than a year IIRC. Just saying.
Yeah, but FW have already stated that IA3 is out of stock because they're revising the book to bring it in line with modern 40k. IA8 is already a modern book, so there's no reason for it to go out of stock permanently. In fact, if it's sold well enough to go out of stock while other modern IA books haven't it's a good sign that the book is popular enough to order another print run.

Those updates have been available on the FW website since August 2009, so you're right, sorry, the rules for all the Imperial Guard, Imperial Navy, and Space Marine units with the exception of some of the campaign book units have been available and fully up-to-date for the last three years, and now one or two of those entries are not totally accurate. And even the inaccurate ones will give you a reasonable idea of the unit's capabilities, to the point that you would only need to briefly glance at an opponent's copy of the rules to take in the differences.
I'm fairly certain my point still stands: the idea that FW rules are inherently and dramatically harder to familiarise yourself with than normal GW codex rules -to the point that allowing FW in tournaments would be unreasonable and unfair- is a crock. If someone is the kind of person who is willing to go out and buy every single Codex and obsessively study them prior to attending a tournament, the only reason they're not familiar with FW rules is they chose not to be.
