Spawn of Chaos

Hey all,

I have to preface this by saying I really like the new Chaos Space Marine models.

My problem is, how do I fit them into the 'lore' of my army? I play Death Guard and I've always gotten the impression that they were a very by the numbers armed force. Tanks'n'Troops. Would it make sense for a warband of Death Guard to use something like a Forgefiend or a Heldrake? I can sort of see them using a Heldrake to spread plague or pathogens over cities/battlefields/whathaveyou, but the Forge/Maulerfiend doesn't seem fit as well. I can see any of these sorts of units in with the Iron Warriors or Word Bearers because of things like Graham McNeil's Iron Warriors depictions. Perhaps if someone knows of a place of non-heresy Death Guard I can read about it would help change my opinion more.

My question is, how do you think they would fit into a Death Guard army? Is this just my natural recoil to change and I'm looking at it wrong? Or should I just sit back and enjoy the new models?

GW typically doesn't care how they screw with previous fluff (see: Necrons) and will completely change the background of things if it fancy's them at any given moment.

However the only real "blow" to previous fluff here is Dark Apostles not being exclusively Word Bearer. For your problem, Death Guard indeed uses Daemon Engines so Forgefiends and Heldrakes would work. True they don't look very Death Guardy, but you could give it rust/decaying/mutation conversion bits to make it more authentically Nurgle.

If your prepared to use Defilers then no reason why you can't use the new range.
If you want to say there bound by nurgle daemon, a layer of rust, mucous and slime would make it look suitably appropriate. In fact would look pretty good I reckon.

The death guard do use some nurgle specific daemon engines, such as the Contagion and the Plague Tower, I see no reason why they would not use some of the shiny new daemon engines as well, though presumable they would be more rust/tentacley

Why must I always choose beween certain death and probable death.

Just plant some Nurglings on top

Any vehicles that were in possession of the Death Guard at the time of the Horus Heresy have since fallen into disrepair, or have been commandeered by cheeky Nurglings.

If "cheeky Nurglings" drive their Rhinos, they can drive/ride their Heldrakes too. Perfect "Lost-and-the-damned-fluff-compatible" Death Guard army right there

Thank you all for your replies! I've done a lot of rust painting, with a little a green stuff they could easily fit in I think. Also I like the idea of a bunch of nurglings dangling from a flying engine of war.

Try to sculpt/convert the type of mono-horn/deer antlers that show up on nurgle daemons a lot and put them on the drake. It would be cool if it worked.

If you want a bunch of Nurgley goodness take a look at the artwork from Magic the Gathering: New Phyrexia.

It was basically "What if Nurgle invaded a world populated by robots".

The new daemon engines probably fit in extremely well with Warmachine. The new raptors fit in very well with things that are not the raptor cult.

You can scratch nugle icons into the plates on the forge/mauler and rust on those lines across the dragonzord

On Nimbosa, cramming as many guardsmen into troop carriers as possible.

Would nurgle have raptors or warptalons?
