Dakka Dakka Campaign 1500 pts Battle Report
Obsidian Legion (Necrons, Other) vs Blood Angles.
Initial landing on Masali (Venta System).
Ok, so this is my first battle report on Dakka ever, figured now would be a good time with the World Wide Dakka Dakka Campaign starting. I really like the way jy2 does his reports, so I wanted to see how my tablet would take pictures and if I could write up something good. Please let me know if something doesn’t work, and don’t expect too much, or the same thing for future reports, since I am just getting started.
FLUFF
I also will try my hand at a little bit of fluff here and there, it will be marked ((like this)).
((Nomarch Bruticus of the Obsidian Legion skimmed over the dry sand of Masali. The first goal of this war would be to secure the planet that his forces had just begun to land on and gather whatever data could be found. Cyclonus wished he could watch the first battles, but the overlord’s direction was required for the logistics.
There was very little data on this location, but more and more reports were coming in as the scouts returned with their scans. The only intel the Nomarch had, was that Masali was of the most importance to the necrons in the whole sub-sector due to what was just recently recovered of the old tomb-world listings. Although no one could be sure how many slumbering necrons where underneath the survice, all evidence pointed to its unconfirmed holding: one of the ancient World Engines. Perhaps this is what had caused the primitive Adeptus Mechanicus to quarantine it. Bruticus knew that there would be some sort of Imperium presence, as anything of original necron design was precious to that order, and they would not give it up without a fight.
The uplink came alive with new reports from the Scout Scythes that were just dispatched. They report indicated that a detachment of Spare Marine of the Blood Angles chapter, mechanized with the aid of the Adeptus Mechanicus was heading toward his location. It also appeared on the scans that there was two ancient beacons that had recently activated once Necron forces had landed on the planet. Bruticus immediately gave the order over the uplink to the first wave of the Obsidian Legion. They were to march at all speed to the location of the data banks. According to his calculations (which had an error tolerance of .03%), his forces would arrive at the beacon’s location within one minute of the Blood Angle forces. This was going to be the Legion’s first battle, and they were ready for it.))
BA list:
Obsidian Legion (Necrons) List:
Battlefield:
Some ruins, a couple forests, and a impassable building on the far left.
Mission: 5. The Emporer’s Will (1 objective each)
Deployment: Dawn of War
Warlord traits:
Bruticus got Legendary Fighter (+1
VP for winning a challenge) and the Libarian got Master of Offence (furious charge in enemy deployment zone).
Nightfight: Happens 1st turn
1st to deploy:
BA
Right to left:
Lib. Dread, (assault marines inside the razorback), 3x Rifleman Dreads, 2x razorback with assault marines, tactical squad with Priest, Land speeder squad (behind). The
BA objective is the gold token that is barely visable between the razorbacks.
((Bruticus chuckled to himself, as he observed the marine’s “land speeders” moving up. It would appear as the ancient anti-grav disruption defenses used against Eldar were apparently still operational. Thus it would appear to have caused much hurried repairs among the pitiful tech priests.))
[Hm, I’m looking over his deployment, and maybe he forgot he doubled up the assault squads? There was nothing in his deployment outside the above pic, so maybe he was going to deep strike and forgot about them?]
2nd to deploy: Necrons
Right to left:
Nomarch Bruticus (D. Lord) with Wraiths, 2x Anni barges, Warriors, Destroyers (behind), Immortals, Scarabs, Warriors. The Necron objective is right in front of the warriors in the ruins.
Necron Reserves:
Night Scythe with 9 Warriors.
Overall Deployment
I roll for Seize and it comes up………………..a 6!!!!!!!
((“IET’S SHOW TEIME”! Bruticus shouted. Sometimes he’s vocal projector would bug out ever since he was hit by an EMP blast back in the Termination wars. He then reduced the volume to a lower level and said: “we must drive back these humans, and reclaim the planet that was and is rightfully ours”. All the necrons heard the order over the uplink, and immediately began to over-clock their processors)).
Necrons T1
After Necron movement:
Overall movement was a forward march. One Destroyer died to dangerous terrain but got back up. Unfortunately, the bridge in the center was suppose to give the barges cover, but now was high enough to block most of their targets since I got first turn, oh well.
After Necron shooting:
Due to nightfighting, almost nothing happened thanks to the libarians 5+ cover within 6 inch aura power. With everything shooting, I killed one speeder, and got 1
HP off the left dread. Note, the dice can definitely be fickle: When the tesla immortals fired at the right rhino, I rolled to hit: 1 miss, 3 hits, and 5 sixes! So I rolled to glance with 18 dice…. and not one six. Oh well, no First Blood for me (which could be crucial on an easy-to-stalemate mission like this). Wraiths and Scarabs ran some.
Another angle at the end of Necron T1:
Note, that my mysterious objective rolled a 1, and it exploded first turn :(. Thankfully, I didn’t lose any of my warriors.
BA T1
After
BA movement:
The Blood Angles shuffled forward, and one squad of assault marines got out to burn some scarabs. The Lib Dread moved over to counter-charge the wraiths; the tacticals prepare to rapid fire them.
After
BA shooting:
This time his shooting was doing better than mine, but not fantastic. His dread’s shot at the destroyers, killed 3, but 2 got back up! His razors lascannon and missiles got a pen hit through on the right barge (also dropping shields), and immobilized it. Thankfully, all the tactical’s and speeder’s shooting was able to bounce off the sepiternal armor of the Nomarch leading the wraiths.
((“What primitive weapons these humans are using” Bruticus thought to himself as he flew directly at the enemy lines. He cared not what they threw at him; he was not going to be stopped.))
There were no assaults. Also, the
BA objective also turned out to be sabotaged as well, but didn’t do any damage during the game.
Necron T2
After Necron movement:
The Night Scythe flew onto the board, and dropped off the warrior squad in mostly rapid fire range. The rest of necrons continue to move up, except the destroyers who jumped into cover, and the immobilized barge since it was….immobilized. The scarabs move into a position to nom nom some vehicles. (Note, the identity of the person who wanted to be in the pic shall forever be anonymous, as his face will not be shown, although I do think he liked to see the newly painted flyer come in turn 2).
Another angle of the Necron left flank, with Bruticus preparing to bring the pain.
After Necron shooting:
Ok, so shooting went a lot better this time. On the left the N. Scythe finished off the other 2 speeders, the left warriors killed a couple marines, and the mobile barge wrecked the left dread. In the middle and right, the immobile barge and the rest of the small arms fire (2 warrior units and 1 immortal unit) killed all 5 assault marines, and took 1
HP off the left razorback.
Note that since my opponent was not quite able to finish off the one of my units last turn, this means that I got First Blood (1
VP).
After Necron assaults:
Ok, a few things happened here that I’ll explain. The four Scarabs on the right were originally going to charge one or two dreads. However, I rethought this idea, since I might lose two bases to 4 twin-linked insta killing autocannon shots, and then might lose another base at I4 in close combat. Thus I chose to charge the Librarian and the right razorback. In that combat the Lib killed one base (thanks to S6 staff), and I did two glances and a pen to the razor. Thus I won combat by one, he ran, but I failed to catch him. Thus the scarabs and the Librarian are where they are in the picture. Also, Bruticus and buddies killed the tactical marines and priest to a man just barely (thanks preferred enemy), and consolidated closer.
Thus after this turn things are looking good for the obsidian legion, and I officially have the lead at 1-0.
Oh and guess what…
((The Nomarch, who has just 2.53 seconds to glance back at the objective that Warrior Unit 2 was protecting, noticed that they were still close. He saw a red light appear, and he knew it was about to detonate again. “ITSA BAOMB!” He shouted, “GEAT DAOWN!”. Unfortunately the warrior’s protocols could not respond in time.))
Yes, the sabotaged objective went off again two turns in a row! It only killed one warrior, who didn’t get back up. Now I know why those speeders had bad maintenance; the tech priests where busy building smart IED’s
BA T2
After
BA movement:
Things are starting to look dire for the
BA, however, he still has most of his heavy hitters so he may be able to turn this around. He jumps the Lib Dread over to prepare to charge, along with the foot Libarian just in case. He also disembarks the 5 man unit to put two flamers into the scarabs in cover.
After
BA shooting:
The small marine unit wipes out the scarabs thanks to the flamers. The two dreads mow down several warriors on the left (a couple are able to get back up). The Razorback also shoots his lascannon at the immobile barge (just off the picture on the left) and explodes it, killing two warriors by the Necron objective.
After
BA assault:
So fortunately the assault phase doesn’t go well for him. The Lib dread solo charges into Bruticus. We were a little confused about how to work out the dread’s attacks since he had both a force weapon (polearm?) and a the
BA dreadnaught
CC weapon, so we just treated it as all attacks were
str.10 AP2. I was also kinda confused as to weather a challenge could happen with a Lib Dread, so I just took the wounds on Bruticus directly (probably could have done
LOS in retrospect). The dread struck first, but could only do 2 wounds, thus allowing Bruticus to strike back. As the wraiths moved up to lend aid, the Nomarch, being infuriated that the large machine just inflicted on his body, struck back with a mighty warscythe blow. It cleaved the machine in two, but also causing it to detonate. Unfortunately, one wraith died to the explosion.
((The uplink came alive, as Bruticus could barely make out the voice of Overlord Cyclonus. “Nomarch, what happened? You’re visual feed stopped transmitting when that Dreadnaught struck you, where is it now? Bruticus, raising his voice over the loud cannon fire, responded back with whatever momentary whit he could think of, state: “OH, HE HAD TO SPLEIT”.))
Necron T3
After Necron movement:
The game looks to be won, but there was no holding back for the Legion. The warriors on the left embarked back into the N. scythe (thanks for the new
FAQ), and it flew up close to the
BA objective. All the other forces moved up as shown to get better firing positions.
After Necron shooting:
The tesla destructors on the scythe and barge where able to finish off the middle dread, and the closest razorback. Small arms fire killed off 4 of the assault marines in the middle, but the sarge was the sole survivor.
Necron assault:
The Nomarch and wraiths charged into the Librarian warlord….
((Bruticus waved off his loyal canoptik wraiths. He shouted a challenge to the leader of these blood angle defenders: “CEOME AND GEEET ME, IEM REIGHT HEEEREEE!”. The Librarian, being quicker witted than the ancient destroyer lord, moved in and struck first. His blow was strong, stronger than nearly all the other marines Bruticus had fought before. However, the Nomarch’s armor proved its worth, and repelled every blow the marine commander could muster. Bruticus, drawing his warscythe around for a mighty swing, struck him to the ground, and ended the so-called warlord.))
Note, that since I have that one particular warlord trait, I receive two
VP’s for killing the Llibrarian (Slay the Warlord and Legendary fighter).
BA T3
After
BA movement and shooting:
The game is all but over, but was opponent was a great sport, and we saw the game through to the end. He moved his sergeant toward the warrior squad on the far left flank, as well as the last dreadnaught to try and kill of the warriors for a moral victory. He killed off almost all the squad, and I think I got one or two back.
After
BA assault: (sorry about blur)
He charged in with both remaining units, but only the sarge made it. He killed off one warrior, and the other two stuck.
Turns 4 and 5
The N. scythe dropped off the warriors and flew over toward the dread. The immortals counter charged, and where able to finish the assault marine sergeant. Between some shooting and wraith close combat, the last dread was brought down. Thus at the end of T5 there were no remaining
BA forces on the table.
End of Game
This is how the board looked, with the Necrons in complete control of the battlefield.
For victory points, the necrons controlled both objectives (6
VPs), all three secondary objectives (3
VPs), and the bonus warlord trait Legendary Fighter (1
VP). The
BA, although very close to finishing off Bruticus, were not able to secure any
VP’s.
Necrons: 10, Blood Angles: 0.
Crushing Victory for the Obsidian Legion!
Post game thoughts:
I know that this was my opponent’s first game in 6th Ed, was using a mech list based off 5th, and was probably missing a few models. As such, Necrons do very well against it, but I am sure with a little list tweaking and some more 6th Ed experience, he will be able to have a much different outcome.
My army performed very well, and everything more or less went to plan after turn 1. I wanted to try a bigger emphasis on troops this game, which seems to be a bit more balanced approach and helps for the multi-objective missions. As usual, my Destroyer Lord (Bruticus) and Wraiths did very well, and I love that unit even more since I finished painting them a few weeks ago.
((Bruticus surveyed the battlefield. No trace of the elite human defenders remained bar the flaming debris of their mechanized assets. He was quite pleased with how his Legion had performed this day, and ordered the warrior units to secure the two ancient data disks. One of Cyclonus’ Crypteks, observing the transmitted images of the disks the warriors were picking up, sent a transmission to Bruticus asking “do you have any clue as to what is on the disk?” The Nomarch, being a pit perturbed, shouted over the uplink: “I’M NOTTA DEETECTIIIVE YOU IDIIIIOT!, HEOW SHEOULD I KNEOW?”. The uplink fell silent after that.
This was a great victory, but even as Bruticus received word of more forces landing on the planet, he knew this war was far from over. This battle was only the beginning of a long campaign, but he would see it through.))
Thanks everyone for reading, hope you liked it!
