Ork Boy Hangin' off a Trukk

I'm sure this question has been asked before on this board but I can't seem to find a good answer in the ork codex.

Page 34 lists the KFF as something that the Mekboy can take, but doesn't give a point cost.

Page 97 lists the cost of a KFF as 50 points, but that is for a Big Mek.

Meks are described on page 99 where it says that you can upgrade a loota to a mek, but only says you can upgrade from a shoota or slugga to a rokkit launcha. No mention of a KFF is made.

To make it even more confusing, on page 2 of the faq, the ntry for kff describes the kff in terms of a mek.

I'm trying to take a KFF to protect my battlewagon, but I don't want to take up an HQ spot with a Big Mek. I'm already taking lootas, so I'd like to upgrade one of the lootas to a mek and get the KFF.

If it's not listed in the options for the unit with a points cost, it can't be taken. Only Big Meks have the option.

You should read the FAQ, maybe there is something on it there.

Brother SRM is right on the money.

Only Big Meks get the KFF. It's pretty self explainitory in the codex.

The entires in the beginning of th book just show what the gear and models can do.

The entires in the back tell you who can take what and how many points it costs.

You should read my post, because I already mentioned that the faq is ambiguous.

From page 2 of the faq:

"Page 34 – Mekboyz, Kustom Force Field. Change the second sentence to read “A kustom force field gives all units within 6" of the Mek a cover save of 5+. Friendly vehicles within 6" are counted as being obscured and have a 5+ cover save”.

Here it explicitly associates the KFF with the Mekboy. When describing the operation of the kff, it only says "Mek" and not "Big Mek".

Regardless of the Mek verses Big Mek ambiguity, only the Big Meks can take them, unfortunately. If Mek Boys could take them, there would be a cost listed...and I'd take them in all of my Loota Squads.

The FAQ may be ambiguous, but the codex is not:

They wrote Mekboyz instead of Big Meks; it's basically just a typo or an afterthought. Grots can't take KFFs either, since it's not in their codex entry. Mekboyz in Loota sqauds don't have the option listed or a points cost, so it's once again not something they can take.

Yep, normal mekboyz can't take a KFF. Chalk it up to GW 's usual problem of not being able to say what they mean. They could clear things up, but that would be work and might actually result in balanced army lists.

But yeah, by the fluff, normal mekboys should be able to take a KFF.

Big Meks should also be able to take a KFF and a bike or MA at the same time, but sadly, they can't.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Only big meks can take it unfortunately.

If it isnt listed as something a unit can buy in the back of the codex, they can't take it.

I wish I could give all my guardsmen demo charges, but the codex wont let me.

Sorry OP, no matter how ambigious the FAQ may be, the codex clearly states only big meks can buy one.
