just asking why most people base there models then paint over the baseing material?

i personally kinda like the natural colour of the sands / slate etc but i fine a lot of people tell me to finish the baseing with paint and drybrush.

why do people not like the natural look?

I paint over mine to give it a unified look - I use about 6 different colors of ballast and sand to make my base mix.
