Is there ever a time in the lore where scouts are depicted with having helmets? I feel at some point they must go to hazardous environments, just curious what they would where. If there is none in the lore, what would you think? IG hazard mask (kasrikins)?

It would likely be more akin to the Elysian respirator helmets, which are pressurized helmets designed for such duty.

Pig Iron has a variety of helmets that look perfect on SM scouts. I think unhelmeted marines or scouts is just silly.

I put helmets on my scouts. To me it just does not make sense to send the guys out into hazardous environments with no protection. That and I hate painting faces.

I imagine that it's a mixture of practicality (special equipment and natural senses hindered by enclosed helmets) and tradition ("you have to EARN your armour, son"). Environmental conditions might necessitate temporary use of respirators. Yes, it's not as protective - welcome to the Imperium, where ritual supersedes logic

That said, 40k doesn't even have a canon, so if people want to go their own way on this one ... why not? I'd not be surprised if some Black Library novel went there already, and given how the franchise is handled, any gamer has just as much right for artistic license.

Yea I have been looking heavily at the Elysian Respirator Heads from FW that had been brought up before. They look pretty good....and I just never really liked how they had open faces. It made no sense if they are on a poison world or something. X.X I can understand them not having SM helmets due to what you said..."gotta earn your Armour".

I use the normal helmeted heads from this Pig Iron sprue for my standard Scouts, and the bottom left head with larger targeting equipment for my Scout Sergeants. I like the way that the normal heads look to have some kind of camera or scanner alongside the main visor-- I imagine that this allows the commander (and Scout Sergeant) to view what his Scouts are seeing on the field.

Those look like DoomGuy helmets! BT is getting new Neophyte models (hopefully according to the leaked release list) so that may give you guys more Scout options.

I have used these heads on my scouts so naturally that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread. I would say they go with scout armour quite well.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.
