So I was just browsing my favorite online art store, pricing up a nice set of brushes as it were. And when I hit the paint section, I noticed that Liquitex now do a range of water based acrylic spray paint, with a matt finish in 100 colours.

I'm now planning to order a can to test out for suitability. But though I would throw it out there to ask if anyone else has used them? I've not seen them before and have been using Liquitex products for a few years now so I'm thinking they're a new product line.

I get he impression that they're aimed towards the street art / graffiti market from the inter-changable nozzles they have.

That's pretty awesome. I like liquitex products a lot and this seems up our alley; perhaps it will be a good substitute for Army Painter.

If you get the can i'd like to hear how they were with miniatures. Whether or not the paint is too thick or just fine.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

I've not ordered my can yet, have been awaiting payday!
But fully intend to try the 'neutral grey value 5' out for a primer... I currently use halfords matt black spray, which as we know is paint and not strictly a primer. But it does a fine job for my purposes to be honest.
The store I found them in also were offering a free sample can of 'cadmium red' which I'l happily try for a Blood Angel base colour. Cadmium generally does make for the brightest red and yellow pigments in artist paints, so I have kinda high expectations for it ; it could however be just a hue match (i.e cadmium red hue rather than just cadmium red) which wouldnt offer the brightness given with true cadmium pigments. I've used Liquitex acrylic inks for some time and they do a 'Napthol Crimson' which is a lovely vivid red shade...expecting a similar high quality of colour in these sprays.
I'l be able to post a review of them sometime next week as I'm going to have to wait for delivery from the online store. If anyone in the USA wants to go to a michaels store and grab one over the weekend and let us know... that would be grand!

One thing I took note of was that there is several translucent colours amidst the range aswell as the opaque sprays that most of us are used to. These might be really nice for creating blends or unique tones with different basecoats.
Airbrushers use a lot of transparent paints to create much of the depth of colour that makes their art work so nice and vivid often they call them candy colours.

i have used it. It tends to go on REAL thick and you will loose some detail unless you are very carefully. Do lots of think coats. The colors are nice and i did some BA with there light red color.

TBH, a cheap airbrush, i paid 14.99 for mine, and GW paint or Vallejo paint will be cheaper and better in the long run. You can do blends that well with these spray paints.

A guy on another forum I frequent used their blue:

If they sold miniatures-friendly acrylics in pots then I'd get those, because you inevitably need the base color again.

They do sell artist quality acrylics in the same colours, in soft and heavy bodied versions aswell as extremely fluid ink. And they also sell artist quality acrylic medium of all varieties. But you would need to be mixing the paints and mediums together to get something friendly for mini's as even the soft body paint is rather gloopy.
Ultra matte medium combined with flow aid, drying retarder and your chosen colour should work out about right if you can find the ratio's (which will vary from paint to paint too).

But they don't offer a single paint product that matches up up with say citadel paints sheen and finish qualities.

Edit; I already own an airbrush, quite a nice one tbh. I just like to use a spray can for my priming coat, usualy I use the matt black form halfords as I mentioned in the op, after the matt black I start spraying thinned citadel colours using Liquitex's Airbrush Medium as a thinner, Thats kind of how I found myself browsing Liquitex products in the first place. Halfords (they're a bit of DIY automotive repair and cleaning supply store chain here in the UK) only seem to stock a matt spray in black as far as I have found, It feels exactly like the GW black spray to me. But I also want grey and white sprays, which is why I'm looking towards these, If indeed they go on as thickly as steve2112 suggests then this particular spray maybe isn't what I'm looking for, I'l still try a can out on some pieces form the bits box or an old mini, If its not good I'l use it for some fine arts most likely (I get upto all sorts with the airbrush).

It's probably been asked a million times here already, but what sprays do you like to use for priming? I'm looking for a white and a mid grey to accompany the black I have been using for a while now. If I want grey or white currently I have to use brush on gesso which great quality primer but is a little more hard work to get a nice flat even coat than a spray can is.

I got my new brushes today, in the order I had a freesample can of this Liquitex Spray. The colour they gave me is Cadmium Red Medium Hue.

It was from here;
http://www.artsupplies.co.uk/item-liquitex-professional-spray-paint-free-sample.htm

I had every intent on getting a can of grey value 5 too, but funds didn't permit and I really needed new brushes, so priority had to take charge.

I have tried the red sample can on a metal Assault Marine.
He was stripped with acetone about an hour before I sprayed him, I dug through the bits box and found an old metal Blood Angels shoulder pad, a fresh new plastic bolt pistol and chainsword arm.
Glued it together except the jump pack as it obscures the shoulder pad for painting.
Then went out to the shed and sprayed with the Liquitex red can. No other primer was used.
I did 3 light-medium coats; 1 from above, 1 from below and one head on all around with 10-15minutes between each coat.
Then I gave him a quick blast with a hair dryer to ensure the paint was dry enough to touch and brought it inside, straight away applying a was of Carroburg Crimson before realising I should've took a photo!
So I stopped there and went to work, its plenty dry now and you can see the original colour of the spray on the chainsword, bolt pistol and base where the crimson wash was not applied.

I think its a very good red coverage, especially without any white underneath (or any other paint for that mater)
I'l wait till tomorrow to give it a good curing time and try a chip test being as I was keen to replace the Matt Black spray I use as a primer with these, a chip test seems important. (the base is just a spare base that has been sprayed far too many times, the chip's on it are from me rotating the figure when spraying, so please ignore those as far as scratchability go)

The paint in these sprays does seem a little on the thick side. I have a feeling that it would be quite easy to gak up your details if not being careful about spray application. Definatly work in light coats, I aim to do twice as many much lighter coats if I use these in future.

If I get any other colours from this range I will share results, and even take a picture before I apply a wash. There is easily 10 other shades of cadmium red available in this range if you wanted something a little darker or lighter.
