Fenris

Hey everyone,

So i hit the drawing boards for a SW 1999+1 and here is what i came up with: (Tear it up and give me every thought and piece of advice you can!)

1995 pts SW army
Wolf Lord (245)
Term Armor(20), Thunder hammer(30), Storm Shield(30), Saga of the bear(35), Wolf tooth necklace(10), 2x Fenrisian wolves(20)
Rune Priest (120)
Term Armor, Divination,
Elite (500)
Wolf Guardx4(250)
Term armor (25), frost blade(10) 3xcombi melta (15) assault cannonx1 (30)
Wolf Guardx5 (295)
Term Armour(15), 1x SS (25), 3x Frost axe(10) 4x Combi melta(5), 1x PF, Drop pod
Troops (760)
Grey Hunters x8 (120)
Mark of the Wulfen(15), Plasma Gun (10), Wolf Standard, (10), Drop pod (35)
Grey Hunters x8 (120)
Mark of the Wulfen(15), Plasma Gun (10), Wolf Standard, (10), Drop pod (35)
Grey Hunters x8 (120
Mark of the Wulfen(15), Plasma Gun (10), Wolf Standard, (10), Drop pod (35)
Grey Hunters x8 (120)
Mark of the Wulfen(15), Plasma Gun (10), Wolf Standard, (10), Drop pod (35)
Fast Attack (120)
Landspeeder (60)
multi-melta
Landspeeder (60)
multi-melta
Heavy Support(310)
Long fangsx5 (130)
2x missile launchers, 2x las cannons, Drop pod
Long fangs x5 (130)
4x Heavy Bolters, Drop pod

Obviously everything deploys by deep strike. The small unit of WG split down to the un-lead GH packs and the assault cannon goes with the HB LF's as well as the RP. The Wolf lord is land to smash any and everything he possibly can. Land Speeders are one shot throw aways for heavy vehicles. As of right now, i dont know how i feel about the LC/ML Long fangs and how they fit into my Army as it plays. Its meant to be extremely agro and in your face. Problems im facing right now are handling minimalist C:SM armies with tons of infantry but im usually fine so long as i deploy correctly and tons of ap 3 fire (I.e. Chaos Daemons and such) Anyway i look forward to any and all help. Thanks!

On page 86 of the Codex it states "For every 5 models in the squad, one model in terminator armor may choose ...". If i am not mistaken, if they meant this to be a minimum number, it would read the EXACT same as the GH entry on page 89 "If the squad numbers ten models, one Grey hunter may take one of the following...". This rule allows one AC per 5 dudes as a partition meant to limit the number of heavy weapons per small squad. This prevents, say, a 5 man AC TDA unit. Not 5 dudes alots one AC option.

I dislike the wolf lord points sink. If you want to pay almost 250 points, why not just go all the way and get Logan?

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

As you have it written, you have 2 squads of WG...one 4-man, one 5-man. The AC is listed with the 4-man unit. So technically, this is not allowed.

If you would have written it as a single 9-man WG unit, you can have the assault cannon and still split off the 4 WG. Just a semantics thing. I thought the same thing as Jens when I glanced at the list.

what the crap i posted here and it didnt stick!

As repsol said- combine the 2 WG squads. No rules issue that way. Although I see the logic defeater- I'd take it to YMDC to clarify.
Do you feel you really need the frost blade? And the frost axes...why not powerfist? Its the same cost for WGT.

You *could* save points by losing terminator armor on the RP- he doesn't really need it.
Another point saver could be on those longfangs, changing the LC's to MM's. You're dropping in, so the range won't matter so much, it's cheaper and better against most targets.
Where does the wolf lord fit? I can't find a pod to fit him in- except in the LF pods. Remember, SW drop pods are 10 slots :(
Also I don't like the MM speeders but hey that's just me They'd fit better in a C:SM list because you can guide their deepstrike with bacon pods.
The Fenrisian wolves are a bit meh in this edition i find. Put them up front, they die, put them behind, your lord is taking bullets for his pet dogs. Those 20p could turn your MM speeders into MM/HF speeders.

Alright my friend, this is exactly what i was looking forward to. So, i was running Frost weaps because the +1 strength power weap really gave me the edge in challenges. (And i challenge every combat almost. It seems more like the Wolf way. ) I suppose it makes more sense to drop them or add fists. I havent decided which way to go with that yet but i think ill probably add fists. Secondly, i will be making the WG Term squad a 4 man with my WL and no Fenrisian wolves simply because they wont fit in the pod. But i love them for the sake of fluff. It just feels right. ive been running the RP in term armor because the only model i currently own is Njal. I never really considered that approach to long fangs but i think i really should. I was facing a dilemma with them because of the way they deploy and just not being effective but i think the multi-melta LF pack is worth trying. Great observation. I run the speeders because they usually soak up fire or drop in and destroy expensive vehicles. But, for 120 total between both, i could probably afford another LF pack with MM. I dont know yet.

I hate to sound anal, but can you list the wolf guard individually? I.e
TDA (terminator armor), Frost blade, combi melta
TDA, Power fist, combiplasma
etc etc. It makes it easier to figure out what ze hell is going on. Although maybe that's just me? I am a strange man, I do admit

If you have good friends/FLGS, I'd recommend proxy before you build MM longfangs or try shenanigous ideas, or magnetize since magnetizing is ftw.
That WG retinue for the lord looks... nasty. 2 fists 2 power swords 4 combiplasmas yeah? Thats... potentially ouch. Drop down next to a heavy target and put 8 plasma rounds into it. Ouch. Looks choice

53 points eh? Some things that pop to mind-
HF for the speeders, as you may come against inf heavy lists.
Deathwind missile launchers for some pods. I've seen them lay some hurt down in the past, and with the new blast rules you can snipe models with it which is a plus.
You could drop your TDA on the RP for another full speeder (yes I don't like the TDA on the RP )
Another longfang with a weapon in each squad
Since your dropping the long fangs down, they may be in range for the squad leader to pack a plasmagun, although I don't like it too much...

...a purple monkey dishwasher? Need more opinions here

Also- what order do you want to drop your pods in? I realize this is subjective game to game, but have you thought about what drops with what?

Alright my friends. This has been most helpful. Played today and went 2-0 at various point values over 1000. The terminator unit inflicted so much pain today it wasnt even funny. My Wolf Lord utterly layed waste to half an Army in the second game, however was underwhelming at best in the first. I also watched my Dakka LF unit reap swathes through 20 marines and half a Vanguard squad. So that was effective to say the least. I encountered an issue with the speeders when facing an army with no vehicles in finding a target that was worth the risk of presenting my hull. Im thinking the HF may be worth while on these guys to make them useful in all situations. Thoughts on this? Another note was how effective TDA can be when its placed out front to eat up saves. I love watching an opponent deflate when they watch you pass 10 bolter saves. So after some trial and error, here is my new draft. (Notice the neat presentation of each individual TDA WG Jahalla. )

Also, it ALWAYS depends on the game for which units i choose to make an assault with. But i have been partial to dropping in my HB fangs first, My WL and WG and 2 GH Packs for support (assuming i dont need fire support from my AT LF). This usually works out well for me. Plus it lets my Heavy hitters distract and reveal a bit more of the Enemies strategy before i deploy all of my scoring units. (Gotta love dropping in on those odd ball objectives or letting an opponent turn to face your termies with his vehicle and give you a juicy point to drop in and blow a hole in his rear armor. )

18 points? Give one of the Long fang pack leaders a flamer and meltagun for hilarity (I just realized you could do that )
18p...plasmagun on a longfang leader
wolf claws for 3 of the GH pack leaders
3 meltabombs for TDA wolfguard leading the GH packs
Chooser of the Slain for Rune priest

I can't find much else to add/change
