Brother Corbulo's weapon states that his close combat attacks are made at S5. Based on the language used, does this mean that his attacks are set at S5, or can he get a bonus from Furious Charge (and inversely, does not lose his S5 attacks from a malediction such as Enfeeble)?

Since it is the wargear that grants a set strength value I think that any modifiers to his stat are ignored if he wants to use his S5 Rending chainsword.

If he wants to not use the chainsword he can but there are limited times where he will be doing any better than his basic abilities.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Similarly, does Astorath only strike at S6 since it uses the same language as Corbulo?

Yeah that's what I wondered. It seems odd that no one else has asked yet though (not that I've seen anyway).

Yes

See page 2 of the BRB under multiple modifiers

Also I would assume the same applies to enfeeble unless there is something in the power's rule that overrides this.

Set values are applied last, so Corbulo would always get his S5 attacks

The way I have always played it is that a set value is a set value, astorath's strenght at a given point doesn't effect that his axe hits just as hard anyway.

This follows the spirit and now the letter of the rules.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Didn't the blood angels faq give astorath's axe a profile? If it did is it a set strength or strength bonus?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Replace the first sentence with the following profile:
Rang --, S 6 AP 2,Type Melee, Two-handed,Unwieldy

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Yeah it seems they just changed it to a S6 AP2 power weapon basically... which suggests that it would now get the FC bonus whereas before it wouldn't?

Not really, set stats come last. Add the charge to the character and then ignore it all and strike at S6.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.
