Subject: Paint additive question

I dunno, if Im just asking google the wrong question or what, but I cannot find what this stuff is called.
Its an additive you can put into your paint, so that the paint takes longer to dry. Im having problems with my cheap paint, simply because it dries really fast. This is annoying to me, because certain techniques I cant try because the paint is dry before I get to the next step. Any ideas what this stuff is called?

You are looking for Paint Retarder.
An example would be this from Liquitex, but there's many, many brands out there.

8000 points of Tau/Craftworld Eldar/Necron because the Space Vagabonds can also emulate their wargear and tactics.

I'd suggest using a wet pallet, paint can last two hours easily on one of them, an they are really easy to make/use

Reaper makes one as well. I also second the wet pallet if you don't use one all ready.

A wet palette does nothing for paint on the model though (such as for blending), which seems to be the OP's issue.

Agreed. You're looking for paint retarder, and I also advise a wet palette.
Be careful with that stuff, it's super effective. Too much and your paint won't dry, ever.

Yup, not talking about the pain on my pallet, I water mine down quite a bit so thats not the problem, I am talking about it drying on the model to fast.
So a slow dry or a retarder! Thats exactly what Im looking for. Thanks you guys for the speedy response. I still found it odd that Google had no clue what I was talking when I typed in "Slow dry paint additive" and I would get weird gak that had to do with house painting and the like

You might want to experiment with the amount you put in. I found too much, and not only will the paint take forever to dry, but it seems to completely destroy the integrity of the paint, making it very hard to get an even coating.

Well of course, everything you add to paint is an experiment until you get it just right. It took me many tries of figuring out how to make my washes just right. Now I make them pretty bang on everytime.

You also can try Vallejo Game Color Glaze Medium, as it extends the drying time also.

Glossiness while painting isn't a problem; just thow some varnish at the end if you need a matt finish. I often have at least a couple of layers of varnish on models in various places, before you actually get to the 'protective' coats at the end of the job.

glaze medium is used to make a "glaze" of colour, which evenly stains the colour you're painting over the top of. It's not for blending, but for better layering.
There's an excellent article about it on the old brushthralls site which I personally would trade a testicle to be able to replicate.
