"Listen closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."Leman Russ |

Firstly spell check is your friend.
Secondly, you choose your codex powers when writing your list. When you go through the set up phase of the game you can trade all of your codex powers in for a different number(depending on your codex and mastery level) of rolls on a range of the discipline tables that are dependent on your codex.
You trade all of your codex powers in, you may not mix and match nor can you have both.

Can you take powers from more than one disciplines? Ex. 1 from divination and 2 from telekinesis.

Do the FAQs, which tell you what you can take, let you take a mix?

I've come to understand that you can take one discipline depending on your mastery level. So a psyker with a mastery level of 2 may choose biomancy and pyromancy.
A psyker of mastery level 1 can choose only biomancy.
The number of powers (not disciplines) you can take is stated in the appropriate FAQ.
The psyker may only have BRB powers or codex powers, not both.

Eh not really, you have lvl one mastery you can choose either biomancy or pyromancy.
You may make 1 choice out of the available disciplines if you have one power to choose, 2 choices of of the available disciplines if you have two powers to choose, etc etc.

The various FAQs indicate how many powers you can select and from which disciplines as well, check there. That said, generally you have to give up all the powers normally granted by your codex in order to roll on those tables, for what it's worth.

The Rulebook FAQ also mentions that you cannot mix codex and rulebook psychic powers (p7).

This is incorrect.

This is incorrect.
You must take all codex, or all BRB powers. (Caveat: Hammerhand)
If you take BRB powers, there is no direct limit to the number of different disciplines you may take those powers from. (There are limits to the number of powers you can take, and limits on which disciplines are available to you.)
Tervigon is a Mastery 1 psyker; but has the option to get 3 BRB powers; thus could take one each from Bio, Telek, Telep. Or any combination thereof.

Yup. Mastery level = number of powers you can cast per turn, not number of powers you know. Most L1 psykers in this game know two powers, in point of fact, because their codices say they know two powers. The rulebook does say that if the psyker's unit entry doesn't specify how many powers he knows, you default to as many as his mastery level.
The BRB clearly explains the process for generating rulebook psychic powers- pick a chart, roll one power, choose whether you want to default to the primaris, then, if your psyker knows more powers, choose which chart you want to generate your second power from (which can be the same chart), roll on the chart selected, etc.
Each codex FAQ (you should have them bookmarked if you play this game) explains which psykers may trade all of their codex powers for rulebook powers. Not all of them are allowed to. The general rule is that you have to trade all of them on a given psker; you can't mix & match on one model. The only current exception is Hammerhand, as the GK models which are allowed to trade are required to keep that one.

I thought this originally until I was told differently. Care to post your source on this? It's silly listening to people argue before battles at my flgs. Nevermind the source, it's pretty obvious you can.

Read the FAQs and the rulebook. Those four facts are quite clearly stated. The level, number of powers, and available disciplines in the Tyranid FAQ, and the ability to roll on multiple charts in the rulebook.
