Hey everyone! Just wondering if anyone has ever tried running a 10 man squad of Vanguard Veterans, all 10 of whom are armed with melta bombs. I was thinking of adding them to my 2,500 point army list. I could combat squad them and destroy 2 armored vehicles per turn easily, even 14 AV.

Here's the breakdown of the squad:
Squad of 10 Vanguard Veterans w/ jump packs (325)
w/ sergeant has Power Sword (free)
w/ all have Krak and Frag grenades (free)
w/ all have Melta Bombs (50) = 375 points

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Blood Angels per chance?

You ask for experience. Most of my experience is from 5th when vanguard were easier to use.
However, the point remains you can not know a priori that there will be tanks to bash in open terrain when they come in.
Ergo they should be flexible and fill in where ever needed/possible. They may need to assault MEQ or at least only have MEQs to attack, your squad will not like that heat.

Mostly krak grenades will do against vehicles, only land raiders and monoliths will need the meltabombs I believe.
Then actually having one fist, which gives multiple attacks, maybe with furious charge, is good at knocking tanks around but also good at killing termies to MEQ. The fist model can not be challenged remember.

Talking of challenges maybe go for glaive and storm shield to the serg. in an attempt to win challenges.

In general you should have melta units which will be cheaper and better at antitank duties, you are talking about plenty of landspeeders or indeed MM attack bikes if you are playing BA and want infantry. Having the vanguard capable at antitank is really useful, probably needed. However, that should not be their raison d'etre.

Also it should be mentioned the problem with can opening. You assault in, destroy a raider and get gunned or assaulted next turn. It much safe to have some gun a transport, then assault or shoot the occupants before they can enact revenge on near by models, or indeed get a land speeder to open up the raider have the vanguard assault the occupants.

If you are using jetpacks then the synergy w locator beacons is obvious.

Here you are asking will they filfil potential as teams of 5 tankhunters.

The answer is no. Vanguard are amazing but they need their gear. And you have to be prepared to pay up for the.

For me their true pwer comes in a mix of spare bodies, plasma pistols and thunder hammers/powerfists.

The SGT can have relic/lightning claw and stormshield for challenges if you like, however i would happily let the opponent take out my SGT with his (weapon) while the rest of the unit wrecked destruction.

Amend above, power comes from spare bodies, great cc weapons, plasma pistols and storm shields.
