Hey guys,
Picked up DV the other weekend, and after reading ADB's Night Lords triliogy...and the impending Chaos dex release... well, I'm sure you get the picture.
Onto some pictures! Apologies in advance for the shonky phone pics. Will break out a proper lighting set-up one of these days. Highlights/shadows get dumbed right down :(
Base of blue + a few levels of glazed highlights.
Blue highlighted up to Ice blue, and bronze edging. Used runelord brass on this, now in love with the colour for chaosy-gold-edging. The skulls are still in progress in this pic, as is the white-bone of his helmet.
Airbrushed the horns
And that's where he stands, would be great to hear some feedback, thoughts or ideas I'm still totally undecided how to paint the demon weapon, maybe a purple or something. I want to keep a spot colour running throughout, so if I use purple on the sword I'll use it for the plasma pistol and probably his eyes also.
Cheers for looking
- Dan

The colors are looking good. I would love to see the horns go all the way up to white, though.
As far as the Plasma/Daemon weapon, I think Green is a better choice than purple. (colorwise)
Alternatively, a bright orange? I know that purple is more Night Lordsy, but I think orange would really make it stand out. (and it would tie in to the horns).

The armour is incredible, but I think that the horns are really letting you down at the moment. They look very basic considering how awesome the rest of the model is looking.
Was it Dawn of War where Chaos had purple plasma? I think it would work so long as you kept it quite a dark shade.

Thanks for the replies guys. At work so gotta keep this reply brief so apologies in advance!
Spyguyyoda: I did think about orange, but as he will have a reddish cape, and probably a lava display base, I didn't want to overpower the blue.
Sock: thanks mate. I'm pleased with the armour. Dont worry about the horns, that's just airbrushed basecoat to get the blends, probably should have said before. Still needs shading/defining/highlighting yet! That was just where I got to last night at about 11pm
I did to for a "backwards" style horns with black tips as there are a lot of animals who's horns are coloured that way, plus it's a bit different.
Yep I was thinking a dark purple to keep with the mood of the night lords but bright sharp highlights if that makes sense. Get some drmatic contrast into the sword/pistol.
Cheers
Dan

Hey Dan!
I really like how you painted the armor, its a really strong blue which goes really well with the bronse/gold trims on the armor, and i can see its painted down in detail, well done sir.
Doing the sword purple dosent seem to a bad idea, but i wouldent make it too light, keep it down with a dark purple and some nice edge highlights? Same for the eyes and the plasma?
Well i cant wait to see more, keep up the good work man!

Dan,
Well, now that I know your basing/cape plans, I have to agree that a dark purple will probably be your best bet. Don't forget to update us when it's done!

Hey all,
apologies for the late reply, been a hectic few weeks with work, and then having trouble getting motivated (i.e being lazy and putting off painting).
Nightlords have been put on the back burner a bit unfortunately, after getting my hands on the codex and reading through, spending time on army lists etc, I realised that CSM really werent "grabbing me". There is however, one army that does grab me and really scream "paint me now!"
Dark eldar.
So apologies to everyone, but I'll get a DE plog started soon if anyone is interested, and you never know, they might get some NL allies in the near future
Hell, of course they will. Super-evil space elves and super-evil supermen. Marriage made in heaven.
Thanks again guys,
- Dan
