Hey, just wondering what the rules would be for a lich/undead warforged? Assuming Its allowed but I would still like to see an argument either way as I found these sorts of things interesting to read....

thanks!

I have half a mind to kill you, and the other half agrees

I would guess a lot of bits would be redundant, wouldn't they?Undead and Warforged both have a lot of the 'Construct' features.

Anyway, i'd guess you could build by using the Warforged race and a spellcaster class, then layering a Lich template from somewhere on to the whole thing.

Story wise, it sounds like "Hey, I'm an immortal wizard who decided to jump through a bunch of hoops to become a DOUBLE immortal wizard!"

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Preposterous. They would be preposterous.

As much as I love 3.5, it suffers from the fact that unless you reign things in it gets absurd almost immediately.

Needless to say, the rules for creation would be straightforward:

- Base Warforged Creature. Should probably be a spellcaster of some sort to try to justify why you're creating this abuse of random templates.
- Apply undead template (check warforged rules to see if you can animate a living construct. Might not even be doable)
- Apply lich template (redundant and probably not viable since you're already undead)

The problem with this is that it doesn't make a lot of sense for a warforged to become undead. Still, it has living components, so maybe you can say that you turn your head the other way and say it was created with "undead flesh" or something like that. Fine.

Now you have an undead/warforged. Except he wants to become a Lich; Liches are something that is usually described as being created when powerful spellcasters look to become immortal by... becoming undead. Oops, too late.

If you remove Undead, and you houserule that Warforged have a limited lifespan, it might make sense for one to be driven to become a Lich. Perhaps he used a mechanical component for his phylactory and some powerful Repair spell to allow him to perpetually repair so long as it was in existence, or something.

As a DM, I would not ever allow such a character to be created, nor would I ever create this as an NPC. As a player, I only would create this as a hilarious joke, and then immediately apologize to my DM and pull out the real character. Templates are not story, and this is the reason people hate 3.5.

Warforged... another brilliant development of D&D by committee.

Out of curiosity, why?

I hear they're neat and have a lot of good setting info in the Eberron setting. I'm just not sure why they need to be a core race as they've apparently become.

(Are they in one of the 4e core books? I've seen them, but know almost nothing about them.)

No, they are still in the 4E Eberron books, and not the core.

I suppose you could say that the character was a deactivated Warforged that has been reanimated by a magical spell that acts like a 'virus' that has side effects similar to being undead.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I think it would be funny as a one off sort of special fun not too serious villain. If one of my players came to me with this idea for a character I would laugh at them, mercilessly, until they had a real character. We do have to remember that everything can be explained with magic. After all how reasonable is it that I can kill a level 1 wizard with a house cat? Or that someone can make a demon appear out of thin air and fight an owlbear?
