fifteen years ago, I embarked upon a new stage in my life, and went to university. Up until that point i had been an avid wargamer, and if a confession is in order, slightly (or more than slightly in fact) on the beardy side. This wasn't a problem because everyone i played with was pretty much the same. So, off to university i went, my armies were carefully packed away, and with university, and then work, i never really revisited them again, until now....

A friend of mine, moving house, bestowed upon me his entire collection of figures, and i, being the collector i am gratefully accepted. I was about to just store them with all my other stuff, until my lovely wife uttered those words no self respecting wargamer/collector wants to hear.

'You never play with them, why don't you just sell them'

Horrified at the prospect though i was, the argument had some merit, the armies in my care had seen zero use in almost 15 years. and the collection is somewhat on the large size. I was left with 2 options, Sell them, or start wargaming again.
Naturally i opted for the second option, and my once tidy computer room has been transformed into a bomb site as i sort through, and catalogue exactly what i have in my keeping.

'At least you aren't playing that stupid internet spaceship game' she said (eve online for those who are uninitiated) that is until, a couple of days ago, i announced that i would be spending several nights a week playing 'stupid war games' that is perhaps a little unfair, after all my lovely wife is one of the few female wargamers i have ever met (she used to play space wolves)

So, my last real memories of warhammer, and 40k are herohammer, and the first few months of 3rd edition. my 40k collection has the better part of a battle company, i come to you, fellow gamers, with dettol, a toothbrush, and a new found determination to not let my wife make me sell my stuff!

Well if you managed to hang onto it for 15 years without it going mysteriously "missing" I doubt she'll manage to get rid of it now.
