Hello dakkas
I first heard about infinity on a podcast (40kradio) and thought i could give a try
Does anyone recommend it why or why not?
Also what is a good starter army?

Hi! Welcome to infinity (potentially).

Yes, i would definitely recommend it (having not even played a game yet, im hooked! )

heres the incredibly helpful thread put together by Casey's Law:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/440048.page
Good for beginners and for finding out more about the game/various factions.

The factions all play differently, but theres no such thing as an easy faction, or a difficult faction, or anything of that nature really. Everything (from factions to individual models) are extremely well balanced, meaning that not only can you play whatever models take your fancy, there is no such thing as an 'i win' button in Infinity either, or even hard counters really (apart from certain special rules like MSV3 vs Camo...)

So, basically, pick what you like! Pretty much anything you pick can be made to work together, and work well if it meets your gaming tactics, just pick a list (from the free online Army Builder), use the free wiki to check rules and get gaming!

Hope that helps...

EDIT: i will edit this to be more comprehensive later....
EDIT2: Actually, i want to see how you find the beginners thread first...ill try and do a rundown of the factions later if you want it (unless someone else chimes in with one first )

Above is a link to a blog post detailing some of the differences between 40K and Infinity, and some of the perks of switching to the system. As far as starter armies go, all of the armies are well balanced and viable, so go with which ever you like the look of most. Hit up the Inifinty: the Game official forum and browse through each faction's sub-forum for some more detailed info on each side's playstyle. Welcome to the world of AROs! Hope you have fun.

Ariadna tends to be good for beginners as it tends to lack a lot of the more complex systems like hacking, TAGs and TO camouflage, et al.

Think of it not as "Good starter army" as "good starter units". For starters you should go with guys that don't have as complicated rules to get the basics down. Once that is done, you begin the fun
On a side note, from where in Sweden are you from?

Hey there great to have you. Interesting you found about it on a 40k pod cast. What did they have to say?

Think first of all you should look for models you like most. Every army in Infinity has it´s own style and they are all playable IMO. Combined Army seems to be the most complicated one I think, because they have alot of crazy stuff and rules. When I started Infinity I took PanO because of the manga look and the TAGs. All armies give oportunity for a lot of different play styles when you got more in the game. There are no must haves or shouldn´t haves in the list. every line trooper is able to kill any model (of course they won´t have good chances against every model). One of my favourite moments in my first game was when a fusilier (line trooper) killed a ninja and Shaolin in melee...think this guy would have been onored by high command if he wasn´t killed by enemy fire later on....

The starter boxes are good for the start, there you get some line troopers and some special and heavy infantry to try the game. You will learn quickly what kind of playstyle you prefer after experimenting with the different models...

Have fun, this is an awesome game...
