Hey guys! New to posting and new to Warhammer. I've been building an Ogre Kingdoms army and my local Games Workshop is having an escalation league coming up that I'll be taking a part of. I was just looking for some general tips on escalation leagues and how to make a competitive army throughout the entire tournament.

Currently my army consists of the Ogre Battalion (4 Leadbelchers, 6 Ironguts, 6 Bulls), a Fire Belly, and 2 Mournfang Calvary. The league starts at 500 so I was thinking something like this to start off

Firebelly-120
4x Bulls with Ironfists- 128
3x Leadbelchers- 129
2x Mournfang Calvary- 120
total-497
I appreciate any and all feedback and tips!

Solid but I am not a big fan of having access to only 1 spell. Why? cause your opponent will be throwing all his dispel dice at it, which means you have t o throw all your power dice at it and risk double 6s. But the firebelly does bring the breath and flaming attacks, see how it works for you, I would also try a butcher with the ruby ring of ruin, this gives you 2 spells and you'll be likely to get 1 of them off and you could also just bring a bruiser, more fighty and cheaper you'll find the +1 to dispel not much of a difference then no bonus.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Thanks for the reply! I'll keep that in thought while I try some practice games tomorrow. Do you have any advice aou s to how I could trim off that 35 points for the second level if I choose to keep the Firebelly? or do you think your Butcher tip is more effective?

Another thing I had forgotten is the at least 50% core units and only 25% special so wouldn't that make this list illegal? How about switching the leadbelchers for Ironguts?

Well you can't for a legal list. Hero cap is 25% of your army which means 125pts. And it's at least 25% core and up to 50% special see this here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/479305.page

Try them both out in the practice games, the lists look solid, I'd also be tempted to drop the Mourfang for 2 sabretusk 1 unit each and more bulls/leadbelchers. Mourfang are awesome, but 2 is a little lite and they should have heavy armor and ironfists, it can do good against the right target but at this point level you might have trouble finding the right target. Sabretusks will act as redirectors and chaff, something every warhammer player should know about, these will delay units, kill warmachines, assasinate wizards and redirect enemy units setting up some flank charges with your bulls. 6 ogres (5 plus your hero) make a good block you want some ogres behind to provide those 3 supporting attacks each, leadies run them 2 wide and blow up stuff, 2nd rank can fire so if you can squeeze in 4 the more the marrier.

Also bellowers/musicians are nice for the swift reform rules.
