I was recently looking at the Imperial Armour books on the forgeworld website when I noticed that volumes 1 and 2 for Imperial Armour are no longer sold, but all other volumes are still being sold. According to Lexicanum and Wikipedia, Imperial Armour Volumes 1 and 2 have never been replaced so why are the volumes not sold anymore? I would imagine that Forgeworld stops selling a book once its been replaced entirely in some way, shape or form like with Imperial Armour Apocalypse, but I can find no indication of this anywhere.

Everything in IA1 and IA2 has been reprinted elsewhere. The books are ancient (either 3rd or 4th edition) and have a lot of obsolete rules, so FW has decided to stop printing them until they finish updating them for 6th edition. IA1 is supposedly coming soon.

The books you are looking for are both IA:Apocalypse books (if you buy used, make sure you get IA:Apocalypse second edition, not the first edition) and IA:Aeronautica for the unit rules, and IA8-11 for the special army lists related to each book's fluff. Anything else is available in pdf form on their website (or will be once they finish updating it all for 6th).

Interesting. I had no idea everything was being dumped into a PDF form for 6th edition.

I'm guessing that IA: Apocalypse (First Edition) is so old that everything in it has been reprinted elsewhere?

The imperial armored battlegroup has been out in PDF form for quite some time now. I've been reading it for a while but haven't gotten together the russes I need to field it (plus the lumbering behemoth change kind of destroyed the army I wished to take)

I know that you can download it right off the forgeworld website if you know where to look.

Yeah, in IA:Apocalypse second edition. IIRC everything in the old edition is also in the new one, but the new one includes updated rules and some new stuff. I only mention it because if you're buying a used copy from someone you might accidentally get the first edition if you don't know there's a newer one. It's easy to tell though, since the cover on the old edition is completely different.

I typed it right into google and it came up, but I have no idea where to navigate onto the site in order to find all of the PDF downloads that they have. Is google the only way to get to them?

Thanks! I looked up a picture of the first edition and it looks totally different, plus the second edition says second edition on the front too!

Which *can* you use? Any of them you can find.

Which *may* you use? That is a different question. Are you playing a tournament? Then most likely no. Are you playing at home? Then sure, go crazy! Are you playing the TFG who has minmaxed his army? Definitely, you'll probably blow his mind...

Be careful with the PDFs you have to google. Most, if not all, are obsolete. The current PDFs can be found in the link in my signature.

The PDF for Imperial Armor Apocalypse, for example, is dated August 28th or 29th. HOWEVER, that's August 28th, 2009. Nearly all of the units in that book have been updated since then and that PDF is out of date and obsolete.

IA: Aeronautica and IA: Apocalypse Second Edition are probably where you want to start.

IA5-11 are good, be are pretty army specific. No sense in getting something you aren't going to use. What Army/Armies are you interested in?

Agreed with the above. Not all tournaments, FLGS, and gaming groups allow/want/like Forge World. See also my signature concerning that...

The forgeworld books were mainly for Apocalypse and for a few casual games at the local FLGS. No one is really bothered if you use forgeworld around these parts so long as you let them know ahead of time. Unfortunately we can't use them in tournaments, but I don't attend them frequently and my group of friends always do an Apoc game every few months so its cool to throw in some models from IG or SM (since I play BA, and I have a few IG tanks). Or even Orks since one of us plays them too.

So that PDF for IA1 is completely obsolete?

Pretty much all of those units appeared later in either codecies or other IA books.

Which units are you interested in?

Chaplain Dreadnoughts, any kind of IG flyers, Super Heavy Tanks, that Drop Pod that allows you to assault out of it, the Assault Ram, Tyranid Hierodule, and the Tyranid Harridan

The Super Heavy Tanks haven't changed much. A lot of the datasheets can be found on the Games Workshop webpage, actually.

Chaplain Dreadnoughts: Imperial Armor Apocalypse 2

Never really got the point of the Chaplain dreadnought. I would have thought a Chaplain that old would be more inspirational than just granting himself the assault re-rolls. Guess no one could hear him yelling from inside that box...

For the points, I'd rather just take an iron clad or Contemptor.

Agreed! I wanted to put a plasma cannon on a Dreadnought, and the Chaplain Dread is the only way I could for my Black Templar.

I just put together and painted my Contemptor and can't wait to use it.

Not all of them, but you can find them by googling X pdf forgeworld and it should pop up.

I'm curious to know which ones aren't on that page and are still current.

It looks like I should be getting IA: Apoc 2nd Edition and the Aeronautica book then! Thanks.

Its a shame that the Aeronautica book has to give the Assault Ram Supersonic when it has a transport capacity..or so I've been told.

Edit: By current do you mean playable or 6th ed stuff?

Ah! I didn't notice. They mangled poor Inq. Lok!

He was hardly worth it before (and his power sword was lame on an otherwise pretty good mini), but at least he had a cool officer and tech priest buddy, now they're just henchmen with (arguably) better gear :(

edit: did he used to be an elysian vet. HQ? that's kind of cool, if new...
