This isn't a preference list because I know that there are other things I should use. This list is based on what I have, literally everything I have. C&C welcome but this is my first army and I'm new to the game so be gentle!

Space Wolves 1,004 pts

Ragnar Blackmane (Needed an HQ and he was a bargain)

3x Wolf Guard (power fist and a combi weapon each. Combi's are one plasma, one melta and one flamer)

9x Grey Hunters (Plasmagun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard)
9x Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard)
9x Grey Hunters (Flamer, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard)

5x Wolf Scouts (Power Weapon, melta bomb)

Drop Pod (w/ Deathwind Missile Launcher)

Each Wolf Guard goes with the squad with the matching special weapon. Ragnar leads squad in assault.

It's a pretty basic set up depending on my opponent. If it's an armour heavy unit, GH and WG with melta go in drop pod and try to nuke heaviest piece of armour. Infantry squishy, flamers get dropped instead. Wolf Scouts show up and grab on to whatever deems grabbing on to. Meanwhile the other two squads with Ragnar charge up and do what they do best.

I know it's not much and there's going to be a lot of people saying "Get a Rune Priest and Long Fangs". I already plan on it and have the devastator weapons ready just need to buy more Grey Hunters to put them on. I'm on a limited budget so it's a slow process.

1/4 of your points for 1 model is a bargain? You know what's more of a bargain, two Rune priests in TDA. Or a RP and Wolf Priest to give preferred enemy to plasma toting GHs. You can have a full ten man squad too, for a free plasma.

Troops seem solid.
5x Wolf Scouts (Power Weapon, melta bomb)
Not a fan of wolf scouts, but each to their own. I can't fault them, but I'd prefer more GHs with a Wolf priest to out-flank. More expensive, but generally last longer and can have more special weapons. Although with this load out they seem silly. They are kitted for assault, but can't assault out of reserve, so are just going to get shot to pieces when they arrive. Either give them guns, or get out flanking GHs.
Drop Pod (w/ Deathwind Missile Launcher)
Deathwinds are horrible. Save the points.

If you want a suicide GH melta squad, why not make them smaller and cheaper? Do you need 9? They'll just get shot up as soon as they delivered the melta payload.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

That was misspecification on my part, Ragnar was a bargain in terms of actually buying him. Points wise I know he's a black hole sucking down a ton of points and I could use other HQs that would be a lot more effective points wise but at the moment he's all I've got.

Sorry this is probably going to be a dumb question and I probably haven't read it in the codex or I missed something, but how can you outflank with a Wolf Priest? If I could bring GHs in from the back line I'd be doing that in a heartbeat lol.

So should I cut the GH melta squad in half and drop them in as a suicide squad? My friend plays a lot of mechanized IG so dropping meltas in the middle of them is all I've really got so far in terms of how to deal with them. Any advice on that would be most welcome.

My future purchases right now as planned are:
2x Rhinos
1x Razorback
1x Wolf Priest
1x Rune Priest
1x GH squad (6 for Long Fangs and the other 4 to turn into a squad of Wolf Guard)

I figure that would be a pretty good, rounded out list. I can't remember the exact loadout I had but it equaled roughly 1500 pts.

Is there anything else I should get? Something I might be completely overlooking and haven't thought about? Like I said I'm new to the game so right now it's all very exciting and I want to buy it all so it'd be helpful if someone could point me in the proper direction.

Thanks again!

Fair enough if you don't have anything else, but you could always proxy the model (: use it as a rune priest instead of Blackmane.

Outflank with Saga of the Hunter. 10 points for him and the squad he joined to have outflank and stealth. Makes the cover they appear in generally a 4+ save. Amazing way to spend points in my opinion, especially as he provides preferred enemy. Works great against people who use an aegis defence line, since you can just by pass it. Toss a combi-plasma on the wolf priest and you're golden. Acute senses let you reroll the entry side, making it a 50% chance to get the side you want.

Long Fangs with MLs will deal with transports, GHs with meltas will deal with Leman Russes. In fact, AV10 on the side, outflanking plasma GHs will deal with Chimeras, allowing you to cut down the guard with swathes of bolter fire.
I don't really like using suicide squads, if you get bad luck, then their one job fails. Still, if you want to use one; melta/combi-melta should drop most AV:14/13.

A lot of those things on your purchase list are easily convertible, my Wolf Priest is just made out of the GH box set, looks cooler than the only (widely) available wolf priest model (Ulric).
