These were the first things I tried to do once I started working with an airbrush. The bases are just cork and craft store sand with some baking soda mixture for the snow.
Thanks for the suggestions, I was afraid to wash them since it doesn't always work out for me. With the snow I just mix some tacky glue with a bit of water, some white paint and just a bit of baking soda. After I put it on the model I just sprinkle a bit of baking soda on top to make it look like settled snow with a bit of fresh stuff on top.
