Curious technicality/stupid question. As its written now in 6th ed, can MCs such as daemon princes or greater daemons join or form units (with other daemons, or infantry?). as far as i read they are characters, and theres nothing in the MC entry that says they cannot. Whats dakkas take on this?

They must be Independent Characters. Character just means they get to Challenge, Presicion Strike and Look Out Sir.

That there has to be a rule allowing them to join. Being a character has no affect on whether you can join a unit or not, you need to (usually) have the IC rule, as this is the only rule that generally allows you to join another unit

As above. Only models with the Independent Character rule can join other units (with rare exceptions, like the Hive Tyrant).

There are two different types of Characters in this game- Independent Characters, and just "Characters" (often referred to as "upgrade characters when they're an upgrade to a model in a squad). The distinction between the two has been pretty much the same since 3rd edition, although 6th introduced some new rules for characters (like Challenges, Precision Strikes/Shots, and Look Out Sir), and expanded the category of Character to include some new models.
