I am curious what dakka thinks this 1999 BA list should fear. It uses the Forge World IA2 Lucius Drop Pods. They are 50 points, have not Storm Bolter, and allow the transported Dreadnought to Assault the turn it lands. I am especially interested in IG and Necron units (IA choices are welcome) that you think have a good chance against this monstrosity of a list, but I would be willing to look at anything just for ideas. Thank you

So far, all I can think of is
1)LRs, Monoliths (14/14/14) bricks
2)Flyers
3) Somehow taking advantage of it having no scoring units (this seems bad till I think that the opponent will also, likely have no scoring units by turn 2)

GK with warp quake causing mishaps everywhere, demons who go 2nd and pack a lot of MCs/FMCs, necron wraith/destroyer lord deathstars, nid tervigon spam, eldar seer councils, melta-vet chimera parking lot.

All those stand a pretty decent chance. You are betting on your 1st turn being able to wipe them. Anyone who is able to fight you (seer council, wraiths/Dlord, terv) can ruin your strategy. Anyone who can stop you killing them from assaulting what you need to kill (transport spam, daemons, GK warp quake) puts you in a position where you lose a big part of your strength.

I was under the impression that blood angels cant take the lucius pattern drop pod since IA apoc 2nd edition and that it takes up a FOC slot for fast attack so you can only have 3.

Plus have you got 6 of the lucius drop pods? they are quite a bit bigger then standard drop pods

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just checked and what I said is correct outside of apoc games blood angels cannot take the lucius drop pod so everything could stand up to your list as you wouldnt be able to use most of it.

Hello,

Your biggest fear should be your opponent saying "nope, no Imp armour please."

Or being outnumbered 2:1 in the first turn.

Or not going first and having your one unit on the table wiped out by firing / sneaky 1st turn assaults.

Againts IG I would presume you would be up against at least one vendetta which is going to merrily shoot down a dreadnought each turn. You're charging low Attack dreadnoughts into troops which can snap fire (probably with melta or plasma) and then grenade you.

If you manage to finish with a unit your facing units kitted out with melta & plasma weapons and tank fire.

And the IG have scoring units up the wazoo you'll never get rid of them all. I can see a canny IG player poping a special weapons squad in a valkarie or chimera and just high tailing it away and sitting on an objective in your deployment zone to insure at least a draw (and firing at you).

Necrons vs Dreadnoughts:

2 big units of warriors each glance a dreadnought to death in their firing turn (short range) and then potentially glance a dreadnought to death in snap firing (okay they need to be a little lucky for the snap fire kill) - well thats most of the army that pods in in the first turn shot down.

If they have a rock hard lord in the unit they finish the dread off.

And I agree wit you about lacking troops 4 scoring units; 3 of which can be wiped out with a single shot.

You're always going to have to try and wipe out the enemy, you don't physically have enough attacks in 5 or so turns to wipe out large armies like IG or Necrons.

Its a very interesting list but I think it is a just for fun sort of game you need to use it in and not a competitive one.
