So I just picked up a Protectorate Heavy Jack kit and I've decided to build a Templar out of it, or possably magnetize it.

I am wondering what the viability of the Templar is in a competitive setting.

It seems like its Reach combined with decent Melee damage and durability make it a really good melee jack for Protectorate.

And for those wondering, I already have 2 Vanquishers and a Crusader so its not like if I mess up here I'm in trouble. And I plan on magnetizing it anyway, just because 3 Vanquishers sounds like alot of fun

It's solid, but slow. It generally wants to be under a caster that can either boost its speed (Harbinger, eFeora) or that can make it more efficient mainly Reznik in our current lineup. I think Kreoss3 may wind up liking it as well. Beware that like all our melee 'Jacks save the Avatar & Sanctifier it can be a bit a focus hog.

You may find you get better performance out of it in a 'Jack Heavy list, as ARM 21 especially in multiples can be a pain to deal with.

In terms of role it's basically just an upgraded crusader. You're losing a point of POW but gaining beatback and reach. These will both make it just that much more flexible.

All in all if I had to pin it down, I'd say it's a Tier 2 two 'Jack. Very good, but not quite on par with our all stars Reckoner, Avatar, Vanquisher.

Thats what I thought. Anyway, I've got it magnetized to be either a Templar or Vanquisher. I can't wait to try a triple Vanquisher list

I'd temper your expectations, ancillary attack is what really makes the Vanquisher shine.. and you can't get 3 of that.

But I can get 2. 5 AoE 4 POW14 shots a round is just terrifying.

Vanquisher is a great jack. Its 10 pts

Vanquisher 8pts +2pt Vassal = 10pt Jack
One 2 pt model doubles the output.. i would never take 3.

As for the Templar, its an amazing Jack with efeora.

You can bond it if you dont need the Redeemer Bonded.

4 focus, Effective Movement of 6..

11" Charge heavy with 21 Armor and a high pow.. I don't like to take eFeora without out

Consider.
efeora
Templar
Avatar
Vanquisher+Vassal
Redeemer +Vassal
Full Choir.

All for 34 pts... 2 ARM 21 Beatsticks, 2x 4"Templates that cause fire, 4x 3" templates that cause fire when bonded.

Right there... is alot of firepower for cheap. No need for 3x Vanquishers

You could also consider bringing it with Amon.

Beatback on a Pathfinder 'jack is kind of gross.

It is limited though.

I was thinking of getting eFeora just because her model is sweet.

The Templar Jack can provide alot more than just smacking other jacks around with reach and take a few more hits!

It provides a good utility "Beat Back" to help move enemy units around and create charge lane opportunities for your units/warcaster.

Eg

1. eFeora gives 3 focus to the Templar jack
2. Templar charges on an angle towards enemy jack
3. Templar makes first attack, hits and damages, enemy jack is moved 1" back from angle of attack and Templar moves forward 1".
4. You can buy 2 more attacks and knock the enemy back further to provide a charge lane towards whatever you want to charge!

It's a slow jack but eFeora tends to buff it up nicely with Escort and give it that extra 2" SPD!
